Lou Holtz urges Catholics to 'come home' in well-timed commercial
Desert News ^ | 01/03/2013 | Joe Walker

The setting is familiar, even if the message isn’t.

Former Notre Dame football coach Lou Holtz is standing in a locker room giving what appears to be a pep talk. But instead of talking about offensive execution and defensive intensity, he is fervently reminding his listeners that “for victory in life we’ve got to keep focused on the goal, and the goal is heaven.”

The divine pep talk is the newest “evangomercial” from Catholics Come Home, an independent media outreach intended to “inspire, educate and evangelize inactive Catholics and others, and invite them to live a deeper faith in Jesus Christ

Lou Holtz is a very decent man. However no Catholic can ever forget that Notre Dame invited the vicious vile pro abortion Obama not only to speak at their graduation but conferred an honorary degree. They can win all the football titles possible from now to the crack of doom, but their honor can never be restored.

I know there are some on FR that are anti-Cathloic, but this sounds good to me. I am catholic, lower-case 'c', an Episcopalian, probably to be Anglican, or maybe in the future a Catholic. I do not like faggot priests, female priests, same sex marriage, and a lot of the other tripe being sold at my Church these days. I have been a catholic Protestant all my life, but I now protest too much against my own church.

I may be coming home to the Roman Catholic Church after all these years since Martin Luther.

To paraphrase the Gipper.... I didn’t leave the Roman Catholic Church....the Roman Catholic Church left me !!! It’s Roman Catholicism that needs to “come home”... not the other way around, Lou !

An extravagant TV commercial, expensive , everyone pats themselves on the back, the commercial gets retired, and once again a pathetic attempt at Evangelization with no people involved.

Hey, lets take what we can get regardless if this is Catholic or not. Any message urging a deeper commitment to Jesus Christ, even from a little squirt like Lou Holtz, works for me.

Yeah, a lot of Catholics are trying to sell it, but the Church isn't buying. Those folks are all up in arms about the Pope's New Year's Day homily, extolling the virtues of the family, and marriage between one man and one woman.

That is what is attracting me to the Roman Catholic Church. I am currently an Episcopalian.

It appears that the media campaign is OK. It would be far more effective, if it addressed reasons why they left - and if they are churched now or not.

I’m no Catholic and I know Catholicism has it’s share of challenges, but I found Lew Holz’s hopeful message refreshing amidst all of the other crap on TV. Good for him.

So because Lou coached Notre Dame and you hate Notre Dame because they conferred an honorary degree on our pro abortion president we should ignore Lou’s message? I understand te ND hate but good grief, Lou’s a good man....can’t you out the other garbage aside and appreciate the messenger and the messenger’s message?

Lou's a true gentle-man, and a "real" Catholic. I was fortunate to sit in on my husband's interview with Lou when he was still head coach at Notre Dame. And speaking of Catholicism and Notre Dame...

As was said Lou Holtz is a very good man delivering a heartfelt good message. The rest however is not garbage nor should it be ignored. Notre Dame has forever dishonored itself and should be looked upon by Catholics (and all Christians) with suspicion and sorrow. Unfortunately whenever Lou Holtz is introduced, this good man is identified as the former coach of that disgraced institution.

I prefer having a personal relationship with my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, rather than being a “religionist”.

According to the bible, Jesus founded a church and this church had priests who could forgive sins and who would turn bread into the Body of Jesus. Do you know the name of this church? I do. It is the Catholic Church. If you want a relationship with Jesus then why not do it through the Church He started?
