The position of pro-Second Amendment Americans is that gun ownership is part of the fundamental human right to self-defense, explicitly stated in the Constitution by the Founding Fathers due to an overarching political philosophy regarding the balance of power between the individual and the state.
The position of the anti-gun activists in the Obama administration is guns are icky.
The media consider them the intellectuals in this debate.
And so Fox News reports White House In Gun Control Sprint. President Obama wants to fast-track a stack of new gun laws before the lingering pain and horror of the Newtown, Conn., massacre fades.
According to the Washington Post, Obamas task force has already blown past the return of the so-called assault weapons ban and a ban on high-capacity magazines. Theyve moved on to regulations that would require universal background checks for firearm buyers, track the movement and sale of weapons through a national database, strengthen mental health checks, and stiffen penalties for carrying guns near schools or giving them to minors.
I thought the point of this White House task force was to prevent more tragedies like Newtown, as the president said when he announced it. If so, please re-read the last paragraph. Am I missing something?
Universal background checks whatever that means might or might not be a good thing. They certainly sound reasonable to me. But how would they have prevented Adam Lanza from shooting up that elementary school? He took a rifle that belonged to his mother.
The same with tracking the sale and movement of guns. Im not sure about the constitutionality of forcing me to report to the government when I pass down my fathers shotgun to my son one day, but once again this prevents another Newtown...

I’m still waiting for Obama and the DemoQuacks to identify what gun law — other than outright bans and confiscation — could have prohibited the recent mass shooting tragedies.
By the way, where the heck are all the GOP politicians to defend the Second Amendment right now? Why aren’t they taking to the airways with people who saved their lives and those of others by having a gun? Why aren’t they emphasizing the failure of the government to protect the people along the border and in the cities from the heavily-armed Mexican drug cartels? The silence from the GOP is deafening.
It seems that the fix already is in place for more onerous regulations on the matter.
When did he hear this?
If he thinks guns are ickie, then he needs to disarm his heavily armed SS police force he is putting together and his SS cover that polishes his butt.
I'm not so sure about that; Obama and his allies have proven very, very adept at shooting down legal 'threats' -- just look at the eligibility issues and how, across 50 states, the federal courts, and the military courts no challenge has even bloodied his nose.
Given these successes in the legal arena, why should we expect an AWB to be any different?
In fact, imagine that a judge did issue an injunction or decide to hear a case, and then was killed by assault weapons... thus the judge becomes just another reason why Americans must be divested of their weapons.
Cynical? Yes.
Though I've found cynicism to be a very good guide in predicting what would happen in Fast and Furious "investigations": nothing of impact.
We found out last week he did not say when he was told. It could be something from a while back or new. I assume by the nature of him telling us it was recent.
I was in a state guard. State guards simply do not do this sort of thing. Seriously.
Thank you for the info, and for passing it along.
And the DEA doesn't launder money for the drug cartels.
And the FDA doesn't raid farms over the production/sale of raw milk.
And the ATF doesn't enable illegal arms trafficking.
The country's gotten quite weird and the 'tin-foil nuts' are sounding more and more like the only ones who see reality for what it is.
I. Will. Not. Comply.
