Stand With Arizona
As Barack Obama and his gun control supplicant Joe Biden move to use the school murders in Newtown, CT's "gun-free zone" as an excuse to grab the guns of law-abiding Americans, a new poll shows that most Americans actually want more of an armed presence in our schools to protect students from madmen. And Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio isn't waiting for Washington to act.
Sheriff Joe today deployed 500 armed volunteers to patrol outside 59 schools in metropolitan Phoenix. 400 of these volunteers are part of 3,000-strong Joe's "Posse" and another 100 volunteers known as reserve deputies are taking part in the patrols. Sheriff Joe's Posse have participated in the many "immigration sweeps" the Sheriff has conducted over the past decade - resulting in the arrests of hundreds of illegal aliens, drug and human smugglers and gang members.
Arpaio said no taxpayer money would be spent on the patrols and volunteers will be supervised by radio or phone by deputies. The Sheriff said he wanted the public to be aware of his plan for maximum deterrence value:
I want everybody to know were there. Our posse is trained to take action. Weve got some [volunteers] with automatic weapons; Im not afraid to say that, Sheriff Arpaio said."I think it's a great idea to have the posse visible," said Abby Simpkins, who has children who go to Anthem Elementary.
Joselyn Wells, the mother of three children at a school where Arpaio's posse members have begun patrolling, said she was excited to hear about the initiative.
"A lot of people sit around and watch these things happen, watch key signs and no one wants to do anything about it," she said. "Nobody wants conflict, nobody wants to be out in the limelight. And he doesn't care. He wants to do the right thing."
Members wear uniforms and can get authorized to carry a gun after training, though only 400 can actually carry guns. They can make arrests only at the direction of a deputy sheriff. Posse operations generally don't receive taxpayer money and instead are funded through contributions and dues paid by posse members.
The reserve deputies who will join posse members in the school patrols have all the training and powers of a regular law enforcement officer but aren't paid for their police work.
Sixty-four percent of Americans support increasing a police presence in schools, while 29 percent oppose it, according to a Christian Science Monitor/TIPP poll conducted Jan. 2-7. The NRA proposed a similar plan in response to the Sandy Hook murders. Conservative and Libertarian groups have proposed expanding this plan to include licensed concealed carry gun owners who are teachers, parents and school administrators.

Good, when the next MENTALLY ILL person goes berserk at a Phoenix area school, Sheriff Joe’s boys can take him/her out. Guns aren’t the problem. Untreated, undertreated, dangerous mentally ill people are the problem.
Explanations are plentiful throughout history, Why the people must retain a balance of military power un-infringed by government. You'd be right, by suggesting that General Washington would insist that such power be responsibly handled, and it is, by the organized militia, in addition to the many tens of millions of Americans, individuals who also do their duty to practice safe weapons handling, maintenance, and storage.Yet now comes government, hysterically - repeat *that* - insisting that many tens of million of law-abiding Americans are at fault ... when in fact we are not at fault for what happened in Newtown. The last government to assert that fault lay with, and blamed tens of millions of people, continued with gun control programs that allowed what is inherently a wrong about the nature of government, to destroy a million times Newtown.
I respectfully request that you do what you can to get the national government to step back from the abyss and instead have the state goverrnment focus upon the problem of defending schools, before some foreign agent figures out the meaning of gun-free zones.
Thanks montag813.
Go Joe
John Wayne would have made a perfect Joe Arpaio in the movies, or is it Sheriff Joe is a perfect example of John Wayne?
Either way I gotta love the guy for what he has come to symbolize - the last sane public official.
What a wonderful man .We must protect our children with armed TEACHERS!!! ITS FREE!! If we do law enforcement it costs MILLIONS!! . Simply let licensed teachers have their guns properly secured so they kill the kook that starts shooting our precious children. This is going to get worse. In our schools and our churches . Get ready!! an armed and responsible public is the key.Every school should have semi auto AR 15s in a gun safe ready to go and at least 5 male teachers should have concealed weapons on!! HOW MANY CHILDREN DO YOU WANT TO SEE DEAD BECAUSE WE CANT RESPOND LIKE SANDY HOOK?
Too bad he isn’t 20 years younger, I would like to see Joe Arpaio run for POTUS.
It's the former. John Wayne never faced real bad guys--only actors shooting blanks. Sheriff Joe is the real thing.
The sheriff in my county placed armed volunteers in schools last week.
Everyone needs to elect a constitutional sheriff who believes in the 2nd amendment. It’s your first line of local defense against criminals and federal fascist goons.
I was really pathethic to hear how the teachers threw themselves over the children in a vain attempt to save them—that was all that they go do and it didn’t save one life.
Never die for your children in a class room. Make the kook die real bad in your class room. 2nd Amendment shall not be put down without a bloody fight, which WE WILL WIN!!!God Bless American and Bless our 120 million weapons.!!! We will not lay down. 1776 !! Obama go to hell!!
Good idea.
