SAN DIEGO—Strawberry growers are covering their crops while San Diego zookeepers are turning on heaters for the chimpanzees as Southern California braces for a cold snap expected to drop temperatures to a six-year low.

The National Weather Service said Thursday that a low pressure trough sinking over San Diego County and parts of neighboring Orange County could keep nightly temperatures below freezing in coastal areas, the low deserts and inland valleys, threatening orange, avocado orchards and other sensitive plants.

Same deal when I was there as a student in the late 70’s, got cold, beach flooded.
People canoed down the Boulevard instead of biking, we had a blast.

I guess chimps and strawberries weren’t advised about that global warming thingy. If they were just a bit more progressive they wouldn’t have that problem of freezing .... think global warming chimps and strawberries .... see, don’t you feel warmer already?

Meh. I just came in from riding my bike and it’s not that cold out. It’s 48. Maybe tomorrow.

Yes--bracing for cold temps here in Phoenix as well. Into the 20s and low 30s the next five nights, at least.

Brrrrrrr....

So South Park’s recommendations of what to do in San Diego should be delayed for the near future.

We have been down to near zero almost every night here in Eastern California for the past month or so. Got down to -27 below zero three weeks ago.

Every time, recently, that I go out riding my bike, I'm freezing my arse off when I start...

When I get back, I'm turning down heaters and stripping off because the house is so hot.

Nothing like a little fire in the belly.

Well, here in the east we are expecting around 60 this weekend...after about a month of freezing temperatures and snow. It is said that when it warms up in the east, it gets cold in the west and vice versa. Not to worry though. We will be back in the deep freeze by Tuesday; so the cold snap in the west won't last long.

Ice here in Snohomish County WA.

My husband's family (Keay, McGhie) has been in Snohomish County Washington since 1889. The oldsters tell me it's always been cold this time of year.
