Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and other Democratic leaders told President Barack Obama on Friday to consider side-stepping Congress if no agreement could be reached next month on raising the nation’s $16.4 trillion debt ceiling.

And two Republican congressmen asked Obama in their own letter that the president to “be open and honest with the American people” on the nation’s finances in his State of the Union address next month.

In their letter, Reid and other top Democrats said Obama should “take any lawful steps” to avoid defaulting on the debt—“without Congressional approval, if necessary,” The Washington Post reports. …

Well maybe at some point we’ll have a Republican President (of course he’ll probably be another Rino) See how Reid likes all that power he’s giving a sitting President then.

I figure the War Socialism of Wilson and the New Deal were worse, if only for being less precedented. Obamaism is just that much more of the same from the past 80 or so years.

I knew that I would get that answer from someone, and I admit that it is a thoughtful statement made in good taste and good faith.

The loss of life in WWI and WWII was horrendous.

But then there was a fellow named Patrick Henry who said it pretty well.

And I suspect that many of those who died in WWI and WWII would have expressed their view of our government today in much the same way.

Please pardon my previous reply.

I read yours too fast and missed the word “Socialism”.

You were also referring to the war on the Constitution, not the World Wars.

And you are right that they set the tone that makes today’s abusive government possible.

But obumbler is Wilson on steroids.

Don’t forget that obumbler has only had four years. The next four will make the first look like George Washington unless he takes too big a move in one jump, which given his ego and his unstable mind is a very good possibility.

There are no lawful steps to bypassing Congress.

Read Section 5 of the 14th Amendment—Congress makes that decision not the President, not just Section 4 which Obama always quotes.

Harry Reid is unlawfully ceding his responsibility to another Branch of the government, thus he needs to be removed from office.

The governor and the people of Nevada need to find their voice.

Obama and company have “Cloward and Piven”-ed us to the cliff.

The BBC recently had a story concerning the debt ceiling.

They stated that it is already too late to stop the outlays before we hit the debt ceiling.

It takes changes in software, redirection of federal employees and many other changes just to staunch the flow of government largess.

In a very short time we will learn that the coup has already succeeded and that "America As We Knew Her" is dead and none other of her kind will exist on this planet.

I wasn’t talking about the loss of life, though that is significant. But more Americans died of the Spanish flu than both wars combined, so there’s some perspective. Since you mentioned Obama’s reelection and the Civil War, I was also thinking in terms of expansion of the central government.

Reid seems to be itching for an impeachment fight feeling that he could win it with his Senate majority. I say..,”Let’s Roll!”

By the way, there is no lawful way for the president to bypass Congress on appropriation. So this is utterly empty blather. Unless there’s one of them emergency buttons.

The law and rules are for the little people. This administration has ignored Congress since day one and Congress has rolled over for it. There won't be an eye blinked.

If he changes the rules, the rules get changed.

That includes the rules governing his life
