A woman walking her dog at 3 p.m. Friday stumbled upon Larry Lovette lying on the sidewalk near Dimond Park. He had been shot to death. Just one half-hour before that, a 22-year-old man had been fatally shot in the Fruitvale district.
At 4:15 p.m., Eddiebo Rodriguez was shot several times while driving on West Street in West Oakland. Whoever killed him shot up some nearby homes in the process. Thankfully, no one else was injured. Then at 8:20 p.m., police found 17-year-old Ken Harbin shot to death on Hillside Avenue in East Oakland.
The carnage Friday took the insanity into a new stratosphere. Four street killings within six hours. Just like that, we're at six killings in five days. All except one happened in broad daylight.
Here is what that should tell you. The people shooting don't care who sees them or who gets hit.
At what point do we say that we have crossed a threshold, the violence in our city is so out of control that we cannot expect our police department on its own to stop it? That 15 deputies from Alameda County, though welcome, aren't going to cut it. That we don't have the luxury of waiting around for years' worth of police academies to get more police on the street.
That we need to take drastic action to stop the catastrophic loss of life -- mostly young lives.
I believe that time is now. It is time for the Oakland City Council to give serious consideration to declaring a state of emergency.

I'm also not so sure which side would win in the case of civil war, because I have a pretty good idea who our leadership would incite.
One thing I do know is that I don't want to be within 50 miles of LA, Oakland, Detroit, Chicago, Philadelphia, Cinci the day the EBT cards don't reload.
The really sad thing is the Americans used to be Americans first and foremost and at least profess to care about their fellow Americas.
Our cultural elites and Left wing education system has worked over 2 generations to systematically destroy that all the traditional American values and mores so we no longer seem to have the civic bond and appreciation of what it means to be American that we used to have. Now, we seem have polarized into two totally different and irreconcilable world views and people are arming and the attitude among more than a few on all sides of the spectrum is ,”bring it on, lets get the party started.”.
The amount of hate from the Left is especially scary and a quick scan of DU or Kos gives the impression there would be no lack of eager volunteers for home grown versions of SA and Stasi along with guards re educators for Re Education Camps, Gulags and ultimately even worse.
We no longer live in the America I grew up in. What the hell has happened to this country ?
