Until I bought a MAC, I couldn’t either. My DH has gone through three PCs vs my plain macbook. Long run costs of PC is higher because I had to take hours to retrieve the data off each PC (and the purchase of 3 PCs)... and store important stuff on MAC. I am looking at the MAC mini for my next purchase, super- versatile. Meanwhile PC 4 is already slowing down. MAC is more cost effective than PC. In the end I want quality. BTW windows 8 is as horrible as Vista. I work too hard for my cash to dump it into a worthless Windows which is always released to the market full of problems. Having used both and having both in my household gives me a good perspective. MAC is not as bright and shiny.. It’s like a Cadillac vs a ford pinto.

uhhhhhhh huh, crusher, ever read the millionaire next door? just because you can afford a German car and keep it supported at the local mechanic’s shop does not mean everybody is deluded enough to do so, the smart thing with cars is clearly to purchase an Asian car and keep it running til the wheels fall off. But you go right ahead, bud, it is your money.

The iPhone 5 isn’t selling as well as the iPhone 4 series because the 4 series is made very well and it’s not necessary to upgrade every single year.

Don’t knock an American-based technology company for inventing and making quality products. It’s kind of something I want.

(Complaining about price is like comparing Mercedes to Datsun.)

They use Gorilla Glass. Try and find a similar, stronger, or better glass in a similar thickness.

Between my wife and I we’ve owned about 5 iPhones and if you add my friends in I can say I’ve seen.... many... used and abused iPhones.

I’ve not heard of anyone breaking the glass.

What are your kids doing? :)

Probably a strong economic indicator that the 0bama Depression means that people don’t have the $600-$700 to throw out on something that is not significantly more advanced than the iPhone 4.

The problem is, it makes them in China.

Eventually the company will be based there.

Then it will not longer be an American company.

We have reached the age when stuff is “good enough” for at least 4-5 years.

I’ve been an Apple enthusiast since 94. I have a working Mac Performa 575 which I still use for everything but internet. It’s running OS 8 and it’s fine. I have a 9 year old iBook and a 4 year old Mac Book. I use them both and I’ve never had any problems with them. I have a six year old iPod and an iPhone 3GS which is almost 4 years old and works fine.

I was going to upgrade the phone for the simple reason the storage isn’t very big. I went to my local Apple store and I was not impressed by the iPhone 5. I don’t like the shape, or the fact it’s now on a 9 pin on the bottom.

I know Apples cost more than a PC but the fact they keep going and going, hold their retail value if you want to resell them. Yes, it’s expensive but it’s really is like comparing a Caddy to a Pinto. Heck it’s like comparing a Caddy to a Yugo. I can tell you personally, I saved for over a year for each of my computers, to purchase them outright, with cash. It was worth it.

I don’t think the demand is “weak”. I just think there is a glut on the market for cell phones and the market is saturated.

Actually, Apple is starting to move production here.

Few seem to grasp the scale of the supply chain involved, and how few places can support it. They make it in China because they can’t make it anywhere else, what with all the regulations and union interference. People complain about cost of the products, but that’s as cheap as its gonna get. As costs in China rise, Apple will increase automation and move production here.

The problem with upgrading to the iPhone 5 from the 4 or 4s is that where I live...there isn’t any 4G-LTE service. It’s still 3G in most places and unless you live in a major metro area you’ve still got only 3G service. Why spend good money on a new phone with new technology witout the infrastructure to back it up.

Watch the video of them pounding nails into wood with the Nokia 920 glass screen. My grandson just dropped his Christmas IPOD 5 and shattered the screen!

The first day I had my Nokia, I dropped it in the Golf Course parking lot right flat on the glass. There wasn't even a blemish.

The Nokia is the number one phone you can buy today and it's cheaper than the iPhone 5.

Bingo, especially given the choice between spending $200 to upgrade to an i-5 or getting an i-4 upgrade for $2. There's just not that big of a technology leap forward to justify the extra cost.

Maybe it is because the iPhone 4 didn’t work. It’s Bluetooth sucked and the voice command was useless.

Me: “Call Wife Mobile”
iPhone: “Calling 911”
*cancel*

Me: “Call Wife Mobile”
iPhone: “Playing songs by Rush”
*cancel*

Me: “Call Wife Mobile”
iPhone: “No number found”
*cancel*
*sigh*

The main reason i’ve held off getting a 5 so far is because they changed the charger connection on the bottom of the phone rendering all my current docks around my house obsolete, which sort of ticks me off.

That will keep me from upgrading until my phone starts rusting. WifeOfZeugma got a iPad mini and iP5. (gave her old iPad to MomInLawOfZeugma.)

I'm a Linux nerd, and really don't particularly like the walls around apple products. It's too freaking much hassle to get data in and out of one. I much prefer the Linux way. Plug it in, and it's a drive, to do with as you want. I've had a Nook Color for a couple of years. I've bought very few bokos from B&N. Almost everything I have is from Baen.com or Project Gutenberg. I like the fact that I just plug it in, mount, copy, unmount, and read. Can do the whole thing with about 4 mouse clicks when I'm feeling lazy.

The only way I've been able to get a new book on my phone was by emailing it to myself. I just said "screw it", and treat it more or less like a phone with a few nifty features. (GPS is an Awesome thing IMO)

I’ve been an Apple enthusiast

I find different attitudes toward computers and related technology very interesting.

I have been a computer user (and administrator) since the early 1980s. A partial list of OS that I can remember off hand working with at one time or another (in no particular order): CP/M, TRS-DOS, Whatever the AppleII used, VM, MVS, JCL, MS-DOS, PC-DOS, VAX-VMS, Windows (3.1 through Win7), Mac-OS, OS/2, Solaris, IRIX, HP-UX, UNICOS, Android, Linux.

The idea of being an "enthusiast" for any of them is baffling.

Don’t really need siri, a compass,

I guess I don't NEED them... but, I've become very fond of using Siri to put appointments on my calenday... very easy.

And, when I'm in foreign countries, I really like the compass... just to keep my bearings. And, the map.

Just guessing, but I think that changing the charging port and rendering all those expensive IPhone toys useless might have had something to do with it.
