Rubio Outlines Bold Plan Giving 12 Million Illegals Legal Status

U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio is developing a wide-ranging immigration reform plan—including steps to give more than 12 million illegals currently in the U.S. legal status—in an effort to seize the initiative on a contentious issue that polls show is hurting the Republican Party with the nation’s rapidly growing Hispanic population.

Rubio laid out the broad outline of his plan in an interview with the weekend edition of the Wall Street Journal, at the same time President Obama announced he would push a comprehensive immigration plan of his own this March.

Surprisingly, both hold similar goals—creating a process in which undocumented workers in the U.S. can gain status and at the same time create a potential path to citizenship at some point in the future. …

Republican lawmakers have told Newsmax that Rubio’s plan could pass muster, even with immigration hardliners, if the plan included a significant restitution for illegals to pay and began taxing them for their work here. …

It appears that Rubio is ignorant of the surveys done which show that only about 20% of the illegals have any interest in becoming US citizens. Most of them will not come out of the shadows even if given immunity. Most of the illegals just want to come here, work, get all the freebies and send money home to Mehico.

I had respected Rubio and wished to see him get higher up in the GOP chain to some level of power. He’s an educated, articulate and very well-reasoning person, I think.

What disappoints me most about this is that he’s either shown his true feathers of race-biased feelings, OR he’s come to the realization just how deeply behind we (conservatives) are in terms of ever being in a position of power again.

We lost this election through massive fraud in key precincts of key states, and we lost in the get out the ‘our side’ vote, that or we’re just plain dying off and not being replaced. In this latest gambit, he’s trying to get hispanics on board with him and turn the tide. It’s his future he’s trying to save, not mine or yours.

At this point, I’ve resigned myself that about the only thing we conservatives can do now is just make our House Representatives SAY NO to anything THE BARACK want. Our Senators? They’re a wasted cause. They are too comfortable in their second tier power country club to get back down here in the trenches with us. The best tactic for them is just to vote them out whenever possible and get somebody new and inexperienced and unadulterated.

Why would this 'surprise' anyone.

The eGOP and the rats are cut from the same cloth.

Rubio is just the fresh, new Juan McCain.

Here's how I know that they are all full of manure about this. There's nothing wrong with his ideas about reforming the legal immigration system, mandating E-Verify, improving guest worker programs, etc. There's no real logical basis to disagree with any of that, so why not just pass that and see what happens? Why does a "path to citizenship" have to be a part of the same legislation? Once they've demonstrated that they are actually in control of the flow of immigration to this country, then I could see entering into a discussion about what to do with the illegal aliens who are still here. But before that, any discussion about "immigration policy" is moot, because our real immigration policy will be half-determined in Washington and half-determined by coyotes and drug gangs on the Mexican border.

Great points, BtBW
I had considered Rubio to be a possible Republican leader but he turns into a GOPe leading Conservatives to another defeat.
I expect Rubio will come out for higher taxes, gun control, obamacare and endless War Everywhere.
He spoke like a conservative for several days but now we see his true feelings and lack of a conservative ideas, agendas, approaches or philosophy.

Some conservative he turned out to be. He can join Colin Powell on his trip to wherever it is he’s going.

One thing is clear as a bell ... for Hispanics, their ethnicity is more important than US law.

Is it no longer “common sense” that someone who has so little respect for your borders and laws that they feel free to sneak across the border illegally will never be the sort of citizen you want in your country?

Not exactly correct. Some of them want to send money home to Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, etc.

And commit the crimes that Americans are too lazy to do. :->

Out of profound gratitude to this non-Natural Born Citizen, 12 million Latinos will immediately sing hosannas of praise for the GOP, and humming the the "Battle Hymn of the Republic," will storm registration sites to become Registered Republicans?

O Happy Day! Just like Karl Rove predicted.

Now for what really is gonna happen. These illegal aliens will continue to triple-vote for the Democrats. Forever. Just as our Negro friends vote 100% or close (actually about 110% if one dares mention ghetto hood fraud)Democrat ... to show their historic gratitude for The Abolitionist Party, that is the Republicans?

The GOP is dead. Next?

These guys are seriously deluded if they think an immigration plan that has a pathway to citizenship and doesn’t secure the border *first* is going to pass muster with conservatives.

What they are doing is pushing us to the back of the line in our own country and they will always do that and their Hispanic leaders will cater to them making us second class citizens in our country. The Hispanic leaders will pressure both government and nongovernment employers to hire more Hispanics making it more difficult for Americans to find jobs. What would happen if you have to come before an Hispanic judge in a dispute with a Hispanic? How will you be treated by Hispanic police? What will happen to the civil rights of Americans? Hispanic politicians who are always pushing for the Hispanic agenda do not understand fairness they only care about their own.

You’re right, why would they want to come out of the shadows when they are doing so many shady things? If they came under scrutiny of the law, the government might find out that the husband was working under the table while the wife was collecting welfare, they have more than one identity and may be getting benefits under more than one name, they may be inflating the number of dependents they have so that they can get more from the IRS (you don’t want to make the IRS mad at you). Who knows how many scams they are involved with.
