Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich says House Republicans are making a mistake by using the issue of increasing the borrowing limit to challenge President Barack Obama on spending issues.
Gingrich tells CBS This Morning thats a losing proposition. In the end, its a threat they cant sustain, he says, because no one wants to see the country default on its debts.

Does a tree make a sound when it falls in the forest.
HEY NEWT STFU!
Just another sellout RINO, striving for mediocrity
and failing!
He said this before on the ABC Sunday show This Week not long ago.
Well its not hard to imagine House Rs getting beat on this just like the last time. Never lost $$$ predicting that.
Except in 2011 O facing re-election gave them a face saving fig called Budget Control Act.
This time he seems determined to totally humiliate them by giving them nothing for the extension. Will see if he is bluffing, although he knows that talk like that just eggs them on.
Newt’s 15 minutes of fame expired long ago, so he needs to revive it.
People call him conservative, but I never thought so. He’s just another blowhard who will take any position, so long as doing so benefits him in some way.
Newt’s right on this one. The debt is wholely owned by the Congress who authorized every single spending bill which has brought us to this point. Congress should take responsibility for their craziness and either shut the spending down or STFU and raise the ceiling to cover the crap that they have authorized.
He is probably right on this. Congress needs to handle spending by just not allocating money, or deallocating where possible. Staging a food fight over the debt limit is a lose-lose game.
GOP idea of taking on Obama, we know it well:
1) Talk tough, brag about demands
2) Take symbolic votes that never see law
3) Give in, cave, give up,..
4) Plenty of hand wringing and wailing, fantasize that someone wants Bohners job.
He and Calista have evolved on gay marriage and fiscal sanity. They also write children’s books and cash beltway checks.
You forgot..
5) CRY!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go away.
You know, the Conservative choice.
There really is no difference between the two parties.
No current banking instution on the planet would approve a loan application with financial data resembling the credit worthiness of the US Fed. Scale it down to the average Joe and run the debt to equity ratios and revolving debt along with the income Vs obligation numbers. You couldn't get approved for a Tic Tac line of credit with that history.
Wasn't too long ago that you would have gotten banned for writing that. How things have changed (for the better!).
I guess the only time (R)s might think it’s acceptable to negotiate is during Obama’s Impeachment hearing.
Newt does not appear to be advocating the former. Or the latter, frankly; his position is that they cannot win against the POTUS.
If no one wants to see the country default on its debts, why do so many continue to permit the country to borrow money we cannot ever hope to repay?
