New York Has Gun Deal, With Focus on Mental Ills
NY Times ^ | Jan 14, 2013 | THOMAS KAPLAN and DANNY HAKIM

Posted on 01/15/2013 9:08:46 AM PST by Tirian

...The state Senate, controlled by a coalition of Republicans and a handful of Democrats, approved the legislative package just after 11 p.m. by a lopsided vote of 43 to 18. The Assembly, where Democrats who have been strongly supportive of gun control have an overwhelming majority, planned to vote on the measure Tuesday...

...The expanded ban on assault weapons would broaden the definition of such weapons, banning semiautomatic pistols and rifles with detachable magazines and one military-style feature, as well as semiautomatic shotguns with one military-style feature. New Yorkers who already own such guns could keep them but would be required to register them with the state...

...In an acknowledgment that many people have suggested that part of the solution to gun violence is a better government response to mental illness, the legislation includes not only new restrictions on gun ownership, but also efforts to limit access to guns by the mentally ill

As someone once said, half the politicians wish people would be better informed. They other half are afraid that the people might become better informed.

Gaffer- I have said this before- there has been a long time push where doctors have been WAY overprescribing anti-depressents for EVERYTHING from backaches, to toenail fungus, claimign that ‘imbalances i nthe seratonin levels can cause all kinds of physical ailments’

I never udnerstood why health care officials were so aggressive abotu tryign to force peopel onto anti-depressents- but it’;sbecoming clear now-

The rwason why I beleive is that now the govenremtn gets to view the records of ALL the peopel who were at one time or antoher prescribed anti-depressents, and the govenrment now gets to say that those persons ‘exhibited signs of mental instability and or swocial problems, which is why they were assigned anti-depressents’ and hte govenrment now gets the ‘right’ to ordwer mental hjealth evaluations (which iof course the person will fail- as htere are a myriad of false diagnosis’ that these victims will not be able to contest

[[The people of NY were sold out by RINOs (spit) again.]]

The peopel of NY did NOT stand up for their rights because it was too inconvenient for them to do so

[[New Yorkers who already own such guns could keep them but would be required to register them with the state...]]

Yeah I’m pretty sure registration was in the constitution too-

[[Be heard.]]

First of all it’;s too late- second of all- the left doesn’t give a damn what the right says-

‘Be felt’ is the only effective recourse left- but of course- noone is willing to do that- so essentially, there is no recourse left-

[[It is the American people who are stupid for electing them. They are the ones who don’t have any idea about anything at all]]

I think they know, but don’t have the guts to do anythign about it By all rights- NY’ers shoudl as a massvie whole say “You are not getting one more dime from us from taxes until you agree to stop assaulting our constitutional rights- I said previously that the right term wasnot to ‘be heard’ but to ‘be felt’, and beleive me, this woudl be felt all across the NY assembly- but again, noonme has the guts to do this- folks in greece do it all the time- when they are beign railroaded by their govenrment, they shut down traffic so that goods can’t be delivered, and it cripples the govenrment- and it’s very effective- but herwe in America we do NOT have ther guts to pull this off- so we are just goign to have to coem to terms with the FACT that we are headed into- rapidly headed into a socialist nation where hte citizens only ‘right’ is to obey the govenrment

From the article....

Classic Gov't stupidity.

They take what would be common sense..."Crazy People Shouldn't Have Guns"...and take steps to ensure that the exact opposite happens.

Jeez, I hate politicians.

“The innocent American gun owners have committed no crime!,yet they’re the ones expected to suffer the consequences? THEY have to “pay the price” for what another has done?”

According to leftard logic, when some insane madman commits a heinous act that kills 27 (#?) innocents, then we must blame all American gun owners. Yet, when 21 insane madmen commit a heinous act that kills 3,000+ innocents, then we must warn all Americans to NOT blame all muslims!

“The right question to ask is are gun owners this pathetic. They deride the libs while they lose their firearms,”

The right question to ask is are gun owners this pathetic? They VOTE FOR the libs and wonder why they lose freedoms.

Well, part of me wants to say voters in NY are so damn stupid that I no longer care what happens to them, but the other part of me realizes that they are in the same boat of the rest of us.

There is no solution to this, at least not a civil one. Ny could toss out all the democrats and elect republicans in their place and nothing would change. They are the same. This is a shell game and under every shell is another tyrant in a different costume.

Hussein would love this for us - limit what one could buy to nothing, register what citizens already have, then take them away.

>>The people of NY were sold out by RINOs (spit) again.<<

We have the government that we deserve. The voters of NY elected their government. Don’t like the rules, move to a different state where life is easier on the brain, Alaska, Wyoming and Arizona come to mind.
