Senate Dems hesitant on Obama gun control plan
FoxNews.com ^ | 1/18/2013

President Obama's gun-control package was always going to be a tough sell in the Republican-led House -- but the plan is already running into resistance, or at least hesitation, from moderate Democrats in the Senate.

The lukewarm response in the Senate to Obama's highly anticipated anti-gun violence plan portends an uphill climb for the legislation. And it underscores how, as the president's backers prepare to launch a veritable campaign to promote the plan, they will be pressuring members of their own party as much as reluctant Republicans.

No Democrat in the Senate came out against Obama's gun plan. But several appeared to be on the fence or noncommittal, even as the president's allies in the House cheered the package as a long-sought solution to America's gun violence problem.

"We must find a way to balance our Second Amendment rights with the challenges of mental illness, criminal behavior and the safety of our schools and communities," Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., said in a statement, noting Louisiana's tradition of hunting, target shooting and gun collecting. She said she would give the proposals "serious consideration."

The president on Wednesday called for a new and stronger assault-weapons ban as well as a 10-round cap on magazines and universal background checks. The last assault-weapons ban expired in 2004 amid questions about its effectiveness and political considerations.

I’ve been putting it off for a few months now....it’s time that I serviced my gun collection....they all need a good cleaning and oiling to get rid of the dust they’ve been collecting.

Even Franken is unwilling to appear too fired up about the gun-grab. Of course, his attitude will surely change after Nov 2014, but maybe this whole thing will fizzle by then.

One insider reported that Obama was going to do much harsher things my EO but that he backed down because of the furor. We actually DID win this one. It could have been far worse. Reportedly even Reid told Obama to back off.

That just means another convieniently timed massacre is needed.

Those that seem to think Obama has become some unbeatable political power overnight because of his fiscal cliff antics (the Republicans screwed themselves over on that one back in 2011, when they bet all their money on winning the presidency during the Debt Ceiling Deal.), are forgetting that Obama just barely managed to get his health care bill through the most heavily democrat congress in half a century even with the liberal use of parliamentary shenanigans. His chance of doing the same with a Republican House and much less democrat Senate is to the south side of slim and none.

Hmmm.

I wonder how often they think they need to see which way the wind is blowing on this particular issue...

"That just means another convieniently timed massacre is needed."

Unfortunately, that is all too plausible, and it doesn't have to be a tinfoil plot to release a specific shooter. It can be just a continued drumbeat of coverage and lurid publicity with anguished victims along with identifying all the gun free zones. Such coverage pushes the crazies and identifies their targets. It increases the odds of additional copycat attacks.

Not gonna happen. That Feinstein bill will die in committee. Dingy Harry wants to get re-elected in Nevada.

The Senate is going to do a combination of the Beer Barrel Polka, the Fish Fry two - step and the LA Hip Hop, honk, cough, and roll out a Barber Shop Quartet and then do nothing. The Democrats don’t want any of this sticking to them.

I suppose it’s unchristian of me, but it’s actually amusing to watch Harry Reid right now. I just get the feeling that he wishes this whole thing would just go the hell away. I think he is not in his happy place right now.

How do they gather dust at the bottom of a lake?

I hope this article is true. I’m still smarting from being told Romney would win.

If it does come to a vote, I hope all the Republicans just vote "Present".

Because, if they come right out and vote no, the Obama ass-kissing Media will just say "See? It was all those right-wing Republicans who stopped this". It gives them a convenient target.

By voting "Present", the media will have to focus on the Democrats that are blocking the Bill. And if they want to scream about some moral issue about voting "Present", we just point the finger back at O'Dumbass and ask why the Media never had a problem with him doing exactly the same thing.

I was going through my stuff and found a case of 500 rounds of .223.

Funny thing is, I don't have a .223 :)
