Whoops: PolitiFact's 'Lie of the Year' Turns Out to Be True
The Weekly Standard ^ | Jan 18, 2013 | MARK HEMINGWAY

here's PolitiFact's original "fact check" on the matter:

[Mitt Romney] Says Barack Obama "sold Chrysler to Italians who are going to build Jeeps in China" at the cost of American jobs. (link at article)

Ok. Now here's what the Reuters reported earlier this week:

Fiat (FIA.MI) and its U.S. unit Chrysler expect to roll out at least 100,000 Jeeps in China when production starts in 2014 as they seek to catch up with rivals in the world's biggest car market. ...

"We expect production of around 100,000 Jeeps per year which is expandable to 200,000," [Chrysler CEO Sergio] Marchionne, who is also CEO of Chrysler, said on the sidelines of a conference, adding production could start in 18 months.

They knew it was true all along. They were just running interference for the Kenyan fudge-packer.

The reason they are building Jeeps in China is because China puts up all sorts of barriers to entry for imports. The Jeep Wrangler fires in China have all been related to the the little-known Chinese practice of tearing down vehicles into base parts and then re-assembling them for “inspection”.

Chrysler would not do this if our gov’t had some intestinal fortitude and stood up to China’s tactics.

I am sure you are right.

BUT the real reason Obozo sold this to Fiat was to subsidize foreign competitors. And as usual his menions lied to protect him in the campaign.

They “bailed out” GM to give 1/2 the company to the labor union.

Obozo broke the law in this action, with no authority.

Daylight is the only weapon that will destroy this night stalking nation killer.

Unfortunately the majority of the people in this country live in a deep dark cave with no knowledge of light and no desire to seek it out.

Correct. They are a product of the public school system and the MSM propaganda machine.

Wasn’t Romney simply mentioning what had been reported by Bloomberg News earlier in the week? That wouldn’t have been a media trap would it?

Do you remember where you saw this article? I have heard that the Chinese impose both tariff and non-tariff barriers, but this is the first mention of a tear-down followed by a rebuild that I've heard anywhere. It does make some kind of sense, given that I've heard imported vehicles cost almost triple what they do abroad, whereas the tariff is, as far as I recall, only about 30%.

I would add that the American public is addicted to opiate commonly referred to as Entertainment Media. Professional sports and sitcoms are consumed in preference to being politically informed on the major issues of the day.

The people would prefer to be entertained than put any effort at all in to becoming truly informed on what the people in Washington are doing to usurp their rights, steal their paychecks and sell their children’s birthright for reelection campaign funds.

The media can try to hide the daily screw ups of this regime but that doesn't make them go away. We are headed for some dark times over the next 4 years and half the population remains clueless about the dangers. Obuttcrack’s chickens are coming home to roost right up his ass. God help us all, and Israel as well when they do.

"If we're really going to be scrupulous about who we trust, the fact that the "Lie of the Year" is nothing more than sophistry aimed at tearing down a Republican presidential candidate says volumes about PolitiFact's credibility. "

Ouch. That's going to leave a mark.

I hope it festers and proves fatal to the bastards.

Cannot happen too soon. When the "right people" have enough of him it will happen. He is/has always been a total fraud and those in DC know it.

It was related to the Jeep Wrangler’s that were catching fire from leaking transmission lines.

Later investigation found these vehicles were disassembled by the Chinese gov’t and re-assembled incorrectly, allowing the leak of the transmission oil onto the manifold.

I just tried looking for the story, but cannot find it.

China did not work out too well for Japan. Just a matter of time before US factories in China are razed.
