Pretty much. Plus being forced to be there almost every day. Plus the notion preached from the pulpit that God (if there is one) is angry and regularly exacts retribution.
To this day, when I'm going through a rough spot; when people say they are "praying" for me, I tell them to knock that crap off. I've had 'way too much attention from God over my lifetime.
Well I believe the “whole hog” and won’t apologize for that.
The angry side of God is only part of the story. Some misguided Christians preach a kind of divine instant karma. Sometimes preachers like this aren’t interested in God as much as they are interested in being bullies. God does get angry at evil (if God didn’t, He would not be a good God) but normally when God gets angry, He takes a long time to do so, preferring rather that people will look to get right with Him before a long time passes. And God made that possible through Himself volunteering to be a sacrifice.
Ultimately nobody can hide from God. I can’t and neither can you. Hell is a place where everyone tries to hide from God all the time.
Hell has better music.
Hell is where nobody consents to face the music.
Seriously, it’s a worthy challenge to investigate: why is evil often so appealing to people, and why virtue so boring? Why does hell’s music sometimes seem more charming? Run that through your think box.
