HOUSTON (KTRK) -- There's a good news update on a home ransacked and spray painted by a pair of teen burglars in northwest Houston. While the burglars are now in custody, community members and Marines stepped in to help the homeowner -- a 93-year-old World War II veteran.
The Marines quickly marched into the defaced home of WWII veteran Elbert Wood, eager to help.
"It's important that he knows we're here for him and that we're always his brothers," Major Roberto Rodriguez said.
The presence of these local Marines is just one example of the outpouring of support for Wood since we first reported the burglary and vandalism of his home on Monday. Two teens, ages 13 and 16, were arrested for allegedly committing the crime.
"My feelings about them are not anger so much as just wondering why they would do something like that," Wood said.
Since then, calls came in from around the country, as former Marines and strangers offered to paint the graffiti-laden walls or replace the damaged household items. Gallery Furniture dropped off a living room set.

Thank you. There is good in this world. And I’m thankful they’ve caught the perps.
I listen to Michael Berry on the computer here in Indiana, Pa.
He’s refreshingly honest.
God bless Mr Wood - and God bless the marines and others who helped him. I hope those two teenagers are hanging their heads in shame.

The Marines
What hearts these Marines have....from Toys for Tots to things like this.
I grew up near Camp Lejeune and Cherry Point, couldn’t stand the (pardon the expression) Jarheads. Now I just wish the Navy community was as caring.
Semper Fi from a retired swabbie.
LOL! I love a happy ending!
God bless the Marines!
great article!
Thanks for posting this story Humblegunner,Made my day.Hat tip to all those people who helped this Marine.
LOL! Must have been a slippery curb.

Semper Fi from another ‘swabbie’.
You well know, that normally when ‘we’ call USMC types “Uncle Sams Misguided Children” or “Jarhead” that it is playful banter amongst ourselves.
Like when ‘they’ refer to us as ‘Squids’ just point out that a Squid is an intelligent form of Marine Life.
It is the ‘outsiders’ that haven’t ‘earned the right’...
In house ‘bickering’ is fine much like when the ‘Boyz’ address each other....<:
A ‘Gator’ from when “Iron Men” rode our “Wooden Small Craft” into battle....and we musn’t forget the ‘Brave Sailors that manned those Wooden Craft’, depositing those brave USMC/USN types on a hostile beach.
Lest the US Army types take offense, those of you that experienced same are considered amongst those ‘Iron Men’.
Semper Fi!
Sic Semper Tyrannis! Don’t Tread On Me!
I watched the video and it made me cry... so much wonderful support! God Bless those Marines for offering help and visiting Mr. Wood. I am so happy that Wood’s house will be repaired.. it would be very difficult for him to just look at all that mess. Thanks for posting, Humblegunner (you big ole’ teddy bear!)

Indeed, as in ‘Back in the day’, a miscreant aboard ship that had roaming hands or sticky fingers, may experience ‘falling up a ladder’ on the way to a ‘crew assisted shower’ prior meeting the Captain, with the answer “SIR! he fell up the ladder while we were escorting him to the MAA Office” when questioned about the obvious bruises.
First time offenders usually didn’t get ‘phase 2’ and, as a result, there weren’t a whole lot of 2nd offenders, just the real hard core— And by the time ‘they’ got to the Captain, the subject was pretty much of a lost cause.
Like it or not, Deck Plate Justice had its place at Sea, along with such grand traditions (long since eradicated) as “Crossing the Equator”, attaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer, etc etc .....
The punishment and consequences for the kids, is the part of this story that needs some publicity!
....assuming they ever happen....
Who are the people who have trained and shaped the brains of these kids, such that they would consider this veteran should be a target in the first place?
They are the children and grandchildren of LBJ.
That clipping never gets old. I’ve read it a zillion times round the net and still smile when I get to the last paragraph.
These Marines make my heart sing with pride. Hopefully, their good example & kindess will be an inspiration to all the “yuth” in the hood.
Bump.
> LOL! Must have been a slippery curb.
And I bet that will be the last time Tyrone tries to stab a Marine. Sounds like he received some “street justice”.
