CBS RUNS SEGMENT CALLED 'LET'S GIVE UP ON THE CONSTITUTION'
Breitbart TV ^ | Jan 27th, 2013 | Breitbart TV

Posted on 01/27/2013 4:51:39 PM PST by Greystoke

This is our country. We live in it, and we have a right to the kind of country we want. We would not allow the French or the United Nations to rule us, and neither should we allow people who died over two centuries ago and knew nothing of our country as it exists today. If we are to take back our own country, we have to start making decisions for ourselves, and stop deferring to an ancient and outdated document.

Looks like some business, academic and political leaders are hysterical. It’s interesting that in recent years, they’re spreading so much of their own fear and panic. Our forefathers did the opposite.

Arguing against a written constitution is the same as advocating either complete anarchy or autocratic rule of one segment of the citizenry over another.

This is the type of egotistic small mind the Framers, in their wisdom, designed the Constitution to protect the republic against.

I agree -- this person is publicly advocating the overthrow of our government.

Professor Seidman seems to to be confident that the Constitutional re-write would be something he would be happy with, i.e. it would reflect his morals, values, worldview, etc. Realistically, that wouldn’t be the case and passions would flare and we’d more than likely find ourselves in another civil war. Does the good professor realize what he’s proposing? I don’t think so. I’m reminded of the words of a post-apartheid South African government official—”It wasn’t supposed to turn out like this.”

As an independent who is a fan of smaller government, States' Rights, and law at the lowest level, I welcome a reasoned, well-debated argument. Unfortunately, when it comes to the issue of "gun control", there are people who want a "Just Say No" policy...with lots and lots of exceptions for themselves and none for their "enemies". They want to disarm the citizens of this country.

If the policy is to make law at the local level instead of the Federal level, citizens then have the right to vote with their feet. (Although the States have been trying very, very hard to bind those feet with what amounts to exit taxation.) The voice of the individual is much louder in town than it is in Washington DC -- the only people who have a voice there are those who have lots and lots and lots of money, to send people to lobby Congress and to buy votes of Congressmen and Presidents. Instead, the liberal push is to pass law at the highest level, to reduce the "cost" of getting what they want.

The most glaring omission from the presentation is the absence of any discussion about how to amend the Constitution. If there are parts of that old document that no longer apply, or are "not as laudable", one can push to amend the Constitution to fix the problem. Witness the process of outlawing slavery in this country -- it took work (and a Civil War) but we finally got the job done. Witness the change in how we fund our government: the Income Tax. Of course, there are people who think that the promises made by the proposers of the 16th Amendment effectively lied, and we as a people got taken to the cleaners because of it. But that's a different discussion.

Throwing out the baby with the bath water is a bad, bad idea. Better to do surgery to those portions of the Constitution that are bad. Do it with surgery, not with a machete. Don't like the 2nd Amendment? Then pass a new amendment, just as we did with Prohibition, another bad idea.

(Speaking of which, doesn't anyone remember the lesson we learned from the Prohibition of Alcohol? Judging from the cries from some people, they don't know history, and so are dooming us to repeat it. If they "win".)

One thing those old dead men did was to think very carefully about how to build a country, how to set up an environment where individuals can shine and succeed, and be rewarded for their smarts and hard work. Regardless of age, sex, race, creed, language, or any other label. And that's just too important to just throw away.

Didn’t those same, irrelevant dead white men write the equally ancient and outdated Declaration of Independence that you are basing your right to the kind of country you want?

Doesn’t that ancient and outdated document provide a process for changing it, or even replacing it? How outmoded is that?

I thank God that I have only 20+/- years left, depending upon the (unconstitutional) death panel’s future decisions.

Hopefully, that will be much longer than needed to get some useful shots off when these idiots finally succeed in starting CW-II*/Second American Revolution.

*AKA “War Of Liberal Aggression”

I don’t think these liberals understand that if they lose such a war they will be decorating lampposts all over the country for their treason. And if they win the war they will be purged by the new commissars as being too knowledgeable about how to make revolution and therefore too dangerous to have around. There is a very good reason Lenin called them useful idiots.

Well, what's new?

Let's take a look at the various Republics out there to see which one has a better track record than ours. BTW that is what we live in not a democracy.

The next attempt at a Republican form of government was France. Since their republican revolution they have been through 4 different republics (they are on their fifth) and three different monarchies. That is eight different forms of government in 210 years. We are still on our first republican form of government.

The next experiment in a revolutionary republic was Haiti.
I have lost count of the number of governments Haiti has had. And let's not even compare the two economies.

So, why should be abandon the longest lasting republican form of government?

it’s their ultimate wet dream, because right now that ancient document prevents them from doing what they really want to do to you.

these people are the enemy within.

also, i’d like to really pin them down and see what’s so terrible and outdated in the constitution. seriously. and let’s really see what their real reasons are. i already know i just want them exposed.

Mister Seidman (he would want me to call him "professor", I will not) wrote...

If we are to take back our own country, we have to start making decisions for ourselves, and stop deferring to an ancient and outdated document.

1. Mister Seidman calls our Constitution "ancient and outdated", however one worries about with what it would be replaced; and,

2. "...we have to start making decisions for ourselves...

is entirely in error. Our Constitution is ABOUT making decisions for ourselves, and I suspect that Messrs Seidman, Ayers, and Obama (and Bloomberg) appear to have little issue when government takes over that freedom.

The Germans suspended their Constitution after the Reichstag fire -- and look what happened !! (from wikipedia)

"Order of the Reich President for the Protection of People and State

"On the basis of Article 48 paragraph 2 of the Constitution of the German Reich, the following is ordered in defense against Communist state-endangering acts of violence:

"§ . § 1. Articles 114, 115, 117, 118, 123, 124 and 153 of the Constitution of the German Reich are suspended until further notice.

"It is therefore permissible to restrict the rights of personal freedom [habeas corpus], freedom of (opinion) expression, including the freedom of the press, the freedom to organize and assemble, the privacy of postal, telegraphic and telephonic communications. Warrants for House searches, orders for confiscations as well as restrictions on property, are also permissible beyond the legal limits otherwise prescribed. "

I thought they were the Fourth Estate as Branch of the Government who were supposed to keep watch on the other branches as a form of checks and balances. At least that what they’ve been telling themselves in order to receive the privileged status to lie and do all sorts of crimes with impunity, like the government. So it is true. Lots of countries in the world where the ‘elites’ run things - and they don’t have to spend forever getting laws passed.
E

Ever wonder why our ‘elites’ like this assh*le don’t just go to one of those places? I’ll tell you. It’s because THEY want to BE the elites that run the place - they don’t want to live under a system where someone else imposes rules on THEM.

CBS elites are the same as all the other 2 bit dictator wannabees... Their greed and hunger for more power is so transparent - and they are so blind to what the rest of us can see in them... It’s probably why their network news shows aren’t being watched... they’re that out of touch with real people. Creepy stuffed shirts...

Then the Union itself is dissolved, since the Constitution creates it. Works for me, let the blue states go full on red and the red states get our Republic back, while we still have a chance of saving a portion of it.

Then we Constitutionally declare socialism to be what is, theft and illegal. Abolish all socialist programs in the new Republic, abolish about 90% of the fed bureaucracy, give all the dead-beats and former fed workers a one way ticket to the moocher`s utopia, declare the gubmint "retirement plans" to be the responsibility of the old dis-topian leftist gubmint and let them have their dream society.

They`ll be practicing cannibalism in the people`s dis-topia within a couple of years.

I thought that the original bill of rights could not be altered in any way, including by the amendment process?

I believe the Constitution only had two "unamendable" sections, one of which is no longer in effect.

Article V: Provided that no Amendment which may be made prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate.

The first of these referenced prohibiting the slave trade prior to 1808, when such prohibition was passed, so no longer applies.

The second is still in effect.

Personally I find it difficult to see how an amendment, which can completely change the Constitution itself, can be prohibited from changing this provision. But since nobody is proposing any change to this single provision, it doesn't seem to make a difference, as Hilary might say.

How many times in how many ways does this bunch need to tell us, they are through with the constitution? And why does it not phase anyone in power when the president on down denounce the constitution?

Why does it not rattle in the GOP or anyone at FOX News when the DOD and DHS classifies people who support the constitution as terrorists?

Is it or is it not treason for people in power to undermine and denounce the constitution?

I wanna go home! Wake me up from this nightmare.

Are these treasonous pukes for real?
