President Barack Obama laid out his plan for comprehensive immigration reform Tuesday that largely mirrored an immigration proposal unveiled by a bipartisan group of senators a day earlier with some important differences.
Both plans agree on the same four core principles for comprehensive immigration reform: strengthening border security, create an employee verification system, a pathway to citizenship, and fixing the legal immigration system.
But here is how they differ:
Pathway to Citizenship The most striking difference between them is how to get an estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants already in the United States on the pathway to citizenship.
The Senate plan, presented by eight U.S. Senators, known as the 'Gang of Eight,' creates a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants already in the United States that would begin only after increased border security measures are increased. A commission of lawmakers and border-state community leaders would assess when security measures are completed.
Obama's plan stresses that the pathway to citizenship should begin as quickly as possible and should not be contingent on the completion of more stringent border security measures.
U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), a member of the Gang of Eight, says he will not support Obamas bill if the pathway to citizenship is not directly tied to better border security.
If, in fact, this bill does not have real triggers in there, if there is not language in this bill that guarantees that nothing else will happen unless these enforcement mechanisms are in place, I wont support it, Rubio told conservative radio talk show host Rush Lambaugh on Tuesday.
Same Sex Couples
Another difference is over how to deal with same-sex couples.

1) Amend the Constitution to get rid of the anchor baby law. At least one parent should be a legal resident.
2) Make people applying do an amount of service guarding the border.
3) No felons, period.
4) STOP allowing illegals to attend US public schools or receive any welfare benefits.
Pathway to citizenship is an utter joke. Rush has pointed out in the past that any legal accommodation of the nominally illegal aliens is a complete capitulation. After all, their illegal status is barely an encumbrance now, what with all the federal declarations of nonenforcement. I suppose an illegal could give me an earful about what a hard time he has!
Anyway, whatever they pass along these lines will be a watershed. Quo Vadis?
Handing illegals citizenship pronto allows them to vote Democrat & bring up the rest of their village. That’s the whole plan.
0bamugabe is going to demagogue the issue and demonize Republicans, in spite of the fact that they’re ready to cave, and Schumer, Durbin, et al are going to sucker the Pubbies in then torpedo the whole thing. The Dems are only using this to pull the rug out from under Pubbies in the mid-terms.
“1) Amend the Constitution to get rid of the anchor baby law. At least one parent should be a legal resident.”
So the solution to solving the immigration problem is to overturn citizenship? What you’ve done here is put everyone here on an equal footing. We aren’t going to get what we want by destroying the connection between an individual and citizenship - in fact, precisely the opposite.
You’d be giving the state authority to strip citizenship from some and grant it to others.
May not be needed. Congress can merely make a law adjusting the Nationalization Act, and when the ACLU and MALDEF challenge it, the SCOTUS can decide the matter. Only if they strike it would an amendment be needed.
You like pregnancy tourism from China?
This part of our Constitution has become a joke and subject to abuse.
What difference? They are all Amnesty Liberals
Youd be giving the state authority to strip citizenship from some and grant it to others.
Kinda what Rubio and his fellow Hispanic Racists want to do with Hispanic Illegal Aliens...
We have millions waiting in their home nations for a visa and/or green card to come to the USA LEGALLY...while we have La Raza Rubio and his Gang of 8 going to give a free ride to every Hispanic Criminal Illegal Alien...because they “want Hispanic voters”
The Gang of 8 is already stripping your citizenship, and has already given it out to a specific ethnic group
My mother was an immigrant. She played by the rules, followed the law, did everything right, and eventually she became a U.S. citizen (which is why I can never be elected president of the U.S., as she was not a citizen when I was born; but, that’s okay).
The La Raza pukes and their enablers and champions in our government and media insult my mother and look upon her as a chump for doing everything the right and proper way.
To say I detest Democrats and the left (but I repeat myself) is an understatement.
which is why the solution is deportation and enforcement of already existing laws, not stripping citizenship from Americans.
Do I like it? No.
Do I like your ‘solution’? Also no. Just because something is wrong, doesn’t justify further wrongs in trying to correct things.
Deport the parents and put the children in foster care. If the parents object, then the child goes with them.
Of course it does. nobama wishes he could accomplish complete amnesty, citizenship, and voter registration cards for all with just a snap of his fingers.
He's in a big hurry. Got to get all these new voters in place before 2014 so the RATS can take back the House and strengthen their position in the Senate.
He knows the criminal aliens will vote RAT as a thank you.
