Standoff with Alabama man who killed bus driver, holding boy hostage enters day 2

MIDLAND CITY, Ala. (AP) — Jimmy Lee Dykes moved to a rural Alabama neighborhood on a rutted red clay road more than a year ago. It didn't take long before he had developed a frightening reputation as a volatile man who threatened his neighbors at gunpoint and was viciously violent to wandering pets. Multiple neighbors said Dykes, a 65-year-old retired truck driver, was the man suspected of boarding a school bus full of children near his home, killing the driver and taking one 5-year-old boy hostage to open a standoff that entered its second full day Thursday. The neighborhood near Midland City, population 2,300, remained under siege after the Tuesday shooting, with the suspect and child holed up in a bunker-type shelter on the man's property that was equipped with electricity, food and TV.

We don’t need 100 on site LEO’s.

There's probably AT LEAST 200-300 LEO & military types tied up in this laughing stock.

Barney Fife, Goober, Opie and 4 of Opie's friends could keep this old guy bottled up long enough for him to get tired and fall asleep.

They're practicing for gun confiscation raids, and civilian bullying.

The reason the mainstream media is not reporting this as front page news is that the government has come to the realization they can not protect the thousands of school buses running in school districts across the nation.

Often buses are MANY miles away from any law enforcement help, without armed drivers, HOW are you going to protect those children? Hmmmmm?????

Thought of this the other day, but didn't publish anything for fear of being blamed or investigated for instigating it.

I so don't want to believe this, but I so do!

I don’t. It’s a hostage situation. I would rather have too many people there than not enough.

And this is the sort of Police State thinking that abounds on Free Republic, while "the authoritays" violate their own laws left and right, and shred the Constitution daily.

There is no law in McMinn County, j14.

BTW - turn in your guns, peasant.

Yeah yeah. I’m not turing in my guns anytime soon, thank you very much.

On second thought, perhaps you're right.

We should suspend Posse Comitatus, and mobilize the entire 82nd Airborne, the 10th Mountain Division, and the 1st Armored Division.

AND a couple of US Navy carrier groups. Pensacola is just down the block.

You can't have too many people, I guess...

You've already surrendered them to the guys in the above picture.

Were you born yesterday?

Strawmen everywhere. Try again.

Or I can play that game as well.

“on second though, perhaps you’re right.

We could just send in a mall cop with no weapon to confront the murderer.”

Considering my guns are still around... I can be certain to say, that I have not surrendered them. Maybe you have in this alternate world, but I have not.

Six guys could wait him out.

They don't need two hundred, including the clowns in the above picture.

Those will be the guys coming for YOU when you squeak your little mousy defiance about "keepin' ma gunz"...

I think 1 could wait him out. 6 is obviously a training excersize on how to ambush me.

I guess I’ll leave it to you to figure out why you’re on a Constitutional, limited government website, where “standing armies” should be anathema, and militarized police gunthugs making 30, 40, 50, 60 dollars an hour to keep the peasants in line would have made the Founding Fathers’ blood run cold.

Keeping the peasants in line? Really. That’s what you call this? Good greif. Yeah, if it was around a persons house, who they say is a gun nut, and then provide no other details, yeah I might be a little wary. Our Founders were smart guys who didn’t jump off a bridge every instance.

Exactly.

And if something tragic happens to this small child, you can bet a ban on “bunker-type shelter on the man’s property that was equipped with electricity, food and TV.” will be shortly behind it.

Because, if he wasn’t prepared with something like this, wherein he could wait out the Storm Troopers, none of this would have happened!

I think your plan is a great one. But lacking in good TV drama.

Wrote the first in a rush.

I would make drama.

I would have cops all over the place...

But in the woods about three miles away. TV cmeras showing how they are beating the brush.

Some woman on TV all excited telling how she saw this guy pulling a kid behind him behind her house about 3:00 AM (her dog’s barking woke her). Last seen going into the woods behind her house.

I would have everyone convinced the guy was on the loose.

And the real BG would be convinced he is the world’s smartest guy.

The only rub to the idea is how to keep the kid medicated, if his medical problem is that serious.

Keeping him medicated would require that the decision on how to proceed would have to be made in the very first hour or two so that the first medical delivery would be large enough that refills would not be necessary.

Unless the negotiator can convince this guy that he needs to come out and change the world with his public appearance, this will likely not end well.

I can’t seem to find a picture of this guy. He’s described as a “survivalist”, Vietnam Vet, and Anti-American.

I have read some of those former FBI books, and they do know negotiation skills. Hopefully they know them well enough to relieve the paranoia of this man and allow the child to be freed.
Apparently they are getting meds and toys to the child through
something...
