Man Chases WPEC Reporter, Cameraman Off Property at Gunpoint

WPEC reporter Al Pefley (right) and cameraman Dana Szpunar have filed a complaint with the Palm Beach County sheriff’s office after a homeowner chased them off his property with a gun...

Pefley, who wore dark clothes, had been knocking on doors to find residents willing to be interviewed when he arrived at Jeffrey Eassa‘s property. Eassa, 47, is a former principal at Acreage Pines Elementary.

Pefley admitted that the gate to Eassa’s driveway was padlocked, but the door to the walkway wasn’t. So Pefley and Szpunar, camera on his shoulder, walked up the house. They startled Eassa, who was packing his car in the driveway.

“Get the f… off my property, that’s how people get shot,” Eassa told the men as he ran inside the house. He came out with a handgun and, according to Pefley’s statement to PBSO, followed the men to the property line at gunpoint as a woman in the doorway of the house yelled: “Jeffrey, get back here!”

Maybe a little overreaction, but I have handed out political stuff before. If someone's driveway is locked shut, or they have a gate, I am smart enough to realize they don't want to be bothered.

I leave my items somewhere, but don't go up to their door.

Or don't leave anything at all.

It’s all good. Nobody got hurt, and you have a reporter who is now one IQ point smarter.

In the State of Texas it is unlawful to enter anyone’s property that is fenced with a gate or has a notice posted. It is unlawful trespass. Furthermore it is trespass to enter any property without permission that has a purple painted stripe on any object within the property.

If that had happened in Texas the man had every right to show his gun on his own property, of which these punks trespassed.

He didn’t realize they were media until he drove them away.

Had he realized they were media, he should have driven them away even faster. I will at least be courteous to Williamson family con artists. But not to media.

Al Pefly? The homeowner could have shaken a stick at him and he’d have crapped his pants and ran to the news van.

I've lived in Texas all my life, and I've never heard about the purple stripe thing. I'll have to look into it. Do you know where that comes from?

So what is the meaning and rational of the purple stripe? A fence and a gate is pretty obvious, a purple stripe less so.

I used to live out there. The Acreage is an area with no street lights, most homes are on dirt roads and are on a minimum of 1.13 acres. It is unincorporated and there are no local police. Last I knew, there were about 4 Palm Beach County Sheriff's officers responsible for all of the Acreages’ 40,000 residents. Pefley was a moron for going out there at night and he knows better.

Those two TV jackasses are lucky they didn’t get shot.

The woman in the doorway needs to learn to STFU.

Re: Purple stripes

I looked this up, and it is apparently the case in several states now. Purple Stripes = No Trespassing. Hell of a lot cheaper than signs for large landowners. Guess it's time to go buy some purple outdoor laytex and hit some of my trees. Thanks!

The homeowner yelled for the trespassers to get off the property, then he went in the house for his gun. When the homeowner came back out, the trespassers were still on the property.

They felt entitled to stay there.

He’s lucky not to have been shot and become lion food nearby! Maybe alligator food?

"At 9 o'clock at night?!?! "

Entered through a closed gate into a fenced area, dressed like a peeping tom -- in an area known to have a serial peeping tom problem.

Here in Texas, they were committing "Criminal Trespass in the Night-time", in which scenario, deadly force is authorized.

Further, in several such cases, the trespassers were adjudged to have forfeited -- and the landowner was permitted to confiscate -- any equipment brought onto the posted property during the commission of the violation -- including nice, new vehicles.

Al Pefley (right) and cameraman Dana Szpunar have filed a complaint

The only reason to do that is to make an anti-gun political statement. Time to picket the reporter's home.
