Soda, candy out under USDA's proposed school snack rules [The Clown Dictates What Your Kid Eats]
The Hill ^ | 2/1/13 | Elise Viebeck

The Obama administration proposed regulations Friday that would prohibit U.S. schools from selling unhealthy snacks.

The 160-page regulation from the Department of Agriculture (USDA) would enact nutrition standards for "competitive" foods not included in the official school meal.

In effect, the proposed rules would replace traditional potato chips with baked versions, candy with granola, and regular soda with diet — but only for high schoolers.

Her Royal and Jiggly Lardass is probably involved with this. Old thunder thighs and porkopolous is continuing to tell us that our kids are fat . . . too bad they don’t have wide-enough mirrors in our White House to reflect her back porch.

Incredible that they somehow found federal reasons to toy with school food.

My kids are homeschooled. I brought up this topic with them the other day about the president, his wife, and/or his appointees telling schools what kids can and can’t eat.

My 5 year old said - “that should be up to the parents, shouldn’t it?”

The idea that someone outside the family would have a say in what kids would eat was simply alien to her.

Why a parent would let their kids buy this junk at crazy prices is beyond me anyway. If they want it then bring it to school in their lunch bags.

The government dictating this is a nonsensical waste of taxpayer money as well.

When I was a kid, on the way home from grade school we went past the Aurora & Elgin train station in the burb (Elmhurst, IL) where I lived. In the train station was a snack section run by a grandma/grandpa couple. They sold penny candies, and just about every kid on the way home stopped in at the train station and loaded up on the penny candy. I remember it well. Candy on paper, slow poke suckers, wax juice filled lips, malt balls, licorice whips, you name it, they had it. It was young child candy heaven. So much for the politically correct of that day. It didn’t exist. These food nazi’s are sucking all of the fun out of childhood.

Your anecdotes are real and I bet many FReepers here relate, as do I. The balance of power and responsibility has shifted to the fedguv, seemingly in front of our eyes.

In Obamaville, that won't matter. The pregnancy will be taken care of quickly and efficiently.

“Might as well have the kids eat straw, with all those regulations.”

There was a thing on the news about some coaches at several schools in Texas (!!) that got fined for selling food at school for fundraising.

The one they showed was homemade fried chicken. Seems he ran afoul (heh - get it!?) of the Texas laws requiring the nutritional labels on even homecooked foods. The fines for the various coaches/schools were $70,000+ !!!!

Bet they didn't think to prohibit renting space to vending machine people and third-party concessionaires, for the amount of money you would have made off the food.

We as a nation had the opportunity to stop or at least slow this B.S. down last November and your neighbors and fellow citizens declined to do so.

Look for some sort of intrusion that cannot be countered with less than half the electorate behind intervention and disruption of whatever it is every day.

I repeat - EVERY DAY.
