Harry Reid to guarantee government shutdown by insisting on more 'revenue' in budget talks
American Thinker ^ | Sunday, February 3, 2013 | Rick Moran

Posted on 02/03/2013 7:44:37 PM PST by upchuck

As long as the majority leader insists that "revenue increases" are part of any package to keep the government running, House Republicans will oppose him....

There is no way that closing tax "loopholes" for the rich is going to generate the kind of revenue that will satisfy the voracious appetite for cash that Reid and his boss possess. And there's no guarantee they would follow through on any budget cuts, especially those that would hit Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security.

But Reid isn't interested in revenue so much as placing the blame for any government shutdown on Republicans. He and his boss in the White House think they can spin any breakdown in negotiations and make it look like the GOP's fault.

In this, they may be successful. What their strategy will do to the economy appears to be a concern furthest from their minds.

“We don’t have a party we have a clusterf**k”

Then you change it... you fight.

Or from what I read from many - you can run away. Your kids and grandkids will wonder.... why didn’t you try?

“I don’t like the staus quo. Do you?”

Nope, but I know things won’t change all at once and “Elections have consequences”.

You get all these so called conservatives staying home and not voting and guess what, the conservatives you do have don’t having any clout or power. So the ones left have to try to govern... and just get bitched at. Why don’t they get some support? When the “fiscal cliff” was all GOP... we got the dems to make the tax cuts permanent for Christ-sake.

Everyone bitches about Bush but Frist and Hastert were the pieces of crap that let us all down.

So sure abandon the GOP and let’s get Pelosi back as speaker - that worked so well 4 years ago. Maybe she’ll national the energy companies or give us carbon tax - that would be great.

That’s exactly what the Tea Party has been doing.

How Far have they gotten?

What sense in beating a dead Horse?

The Dems already get everything they want. The GOP has failed at being the opposition party.

I fought against it for 20 years. And the old guard was and is alive and well. It still is. The only way to reform the GOP is to let it die.

Careful with all the complements. Harry might get aroused and his foreskin will fly up over his ears.

“What sense in beating a dead Horse?”

Seriously?

You guys aren’t the sterling examples of the boys I’d expect to be part of site that admires and celebrates the American spirit. If you don’t want to be part of a team then just take your keyboard and mouse and go home.

Either that or if you are part of the other team, take your strategy of trying to breed conflict in the GOP party and take a hike.

Mike:

I am so glad you are happy with the Republican party.

I am sure they are happy with you and your acceptance of the way they are bending over to accept Domocrat policies and their acceptance of a traitor as Secretary of State.I assume you too feel that John Kerry is the best man for the job, and would have voted with your fellows in the Senate to confirm him.

I suppose you will accept Obamacare and the sequestration that is coming up too.

I am sorry, I do not agree with you nor with the way the Republicans cave in every chance they get. I do not feel that your friends Boehner and McConnell are doing a proper job either, but if you are happy withb them, that’s all that matters.

I am certainly not a part of the other team, but I suspect you are since you are so happy with Republican actions.

Also I do not feel that my concerns with the Republican party outlaw me from this site, but if they do I feel certain I will be zotted.

You see I am a Conservative, and I do not enjoy being sold out by Republicans such as John McCain, Lyndsey Graham and those who forced me to make a choice between Liberal-moderate Mitt Romney, and the spawn of the Devil Barrack Obama. However if you are happy with the party, that is all that matters.

“I am so glad you are happy with the Republican party.”

Are you off your meds? Where did I say I was happy with party, as well as all the other ASSumptions you made on my behalf.

I’m just not a coward like you and give up when things don’t go my way.

Now either step up to continue the fight for the soul of the GOP or step off and go join your buddies in the Green party - or wherever your kind like to hang out and complain.

You remind me of those old ladies sitting around complaining how the world is so messed up but won’t get off your ass to do anything. So if your just going to watch - do so quietly.

Dude, f off. I'm not looking to be an example for a party that has CONTINUALLY undermined conservative efforts and the true "American spirit." I have worked for 25+ years within the Republican Party to hold the line on the diminishing rights of American citizens. And virtually that entire time, I have had to fight, within the party, against those who, within our party, want to dictate what we "should believe."

You're relatively new here. I'm not. In fact, I've been around Free Republic since 2007. And I'm confident that Jim Robinson is much more in agreement with the need to remake the Republican Party because, we know, that indeed "something is rotten in the State of Denmark."

Clearly you want to demonize and eliminate those who might not agree with you which is what I find typical of those without the ability to make their case. Good luck.

The fact is , I can do as I please, and you can KMA.

If you are in love with the Republican party stay in it until it dies,as it is surely doing. We have watched them with Dole With McCain, and now with Romney and they lost each time, and you think we are going to change them.

Well Good friggin luck.
I am not a life long lover of the Republican party, I don’t vote a straight party ticket. I pick and choose, I left the Democrat party when they elected Bill Clinton, and I will leave the Republican party when I feel they have left me.
That is the feeling I now get, they have left me.

But you stay there and help Rubio get his Amnesty, watch Boehner and McConnell cave in on the debt, and keep saying you can change them

Insanity is doing the same thing and thinking you will get a different answer.Sticking with Carl Rove, John McCain Boehner, and Mcconnell is insane. What you will get is caught in the cave in.

“Dude, f off”

Classy. You talk to your kids with that mouth...yeah your a sterling example of what your kind is.

You’ve been around since 2007... noob.

Listen “newbie” because you want to give up on the GOP and hide and you lost your will gives you the right to go away and shut up... I’m not demonizing anyone. I just want the naysayers who would rather have Dems in leadership positions to go away. You and your ilk complain and complain about the GOP but never say anything constructive.... your not helping any conservative cause. You might as well be a lib - if you aren’t

Oh look another classy troll.... ya’ll just hate being called out.

“I left the Democrat party when they elected Bill Clinton”

So you went Repub for GWB and now your back to your Dem ways. So go play with your buddies at DU and go away. We need people that build us up not tear us down. We need positive conservative ideas to fight the Dem media machine not cry babies who resonate the MSM.

“What you will get is caught in the cave in.”

There won’t be a cave in - politics ebbs and flows.... when it moves in your direction you got to push to make an impact....simple.

The last Democrat President before Clinton was Jimmy Carter. Did you support Jimmy Carter?

What about Mondale?
