Colorado: The Assault on the Second Amendment Commences in Denver

Anti-gun legislators in the Colorado General Assembly have wasted no time this legislative session attempting to victimize and disarm law-abiding residents of the Centennial State. Just today, a comprehensive gun control package was unveiled that aims to strip you of your Second Amendment rights.

While official bill language has not been released, below are some of the disturbing and disenfranchising proposals announced today. The actual legislation may be introduced as early as tomorrow, so please stay tuned to www.nraila.org for updates on the evolving status of the comprehensive anti-gun package.

It is imperative that you contact your state legislators TODAY and express your opposition to these restrictive and discriminatory gun control measures and any proposed legislation that would infringe upon your Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

Gun manufacturers of certain semi-automatic rifles will be held civilly liable for crimes committed with their firearms. This is a direct violation of the federal Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act.

And it 's been tried before. The gun haters all lost in court.

You will be limited to magazines that hold less than or equal to ten rounds of ammunition, drastically infringing on your inherent right to self-defense.

Pass this BS law and it will make 10s of thousands of Coloradoans criminals.

Sad that this is happening in Colorado. You’d think a rural, mountain state like that would not vote for so many gun grabbing Democrats. Yet here we are, the state entirely run by liberals and voted for Obama for president - twice.

Haven't seen much courage (but only hot air) from the Dums and gun grabbers since their anti-2nd Amendment bills haven't been introduced to a committee as of yet.

Mostly it is Denver and Boulder that runs over the rest of the state. I believe their are more than a few Dems who are going to vote no on any gun grabbing legislation.

This assemblyman for one.

The Privileges or Immunities Clause is Amendment XIV, Section 1, Clause 2 of the United States Constitution. It states:

“No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States...”

Importantly, in McDonald v. Chicago, when all the other justices were focused on the 2nd Amendment, Justice Thomas wrote a superb defense of gun rights based on the privileges or immunities clause. He justified the heck out of it with footnotes, and it is a masterpiece of judicial writing.

And in this case, it opens the door WIDE to a suit in federal court by *anyone* oppressed by these new laws, as they are *clearly* an effort by the state to abridge citizen privileges or immunities, as far as their gun rights go.

Justice Thomas is a very, very smart man.

Hispanics... Colorado has a rapidly growing population of Hispanics and they love them some Obama and leftists in general. We are beginning to struggle in Nevada, Virginia and North Carolina for the same reason.

Local lawmakers cool to more gun laws (Colorado)

"Cheerful that the Legislature is getting under way, Southern Colorado lawmakers gave generally high marks to Gov. John Hickenlooper's State of the State speech Thursday, although most are cool to tougher gun laws.

Whether it was new state Sen. Larry Crowder, R-Alamosa, new state Rep. Leroy Garcia, D-Pueblo, or veteran state Rep. Ed Vigil, D-Alamosa, the governor's call to universal background checks on gun sales didn't inspire.

All three called themselves Second Amendment supporters.

"I guess it's a subject for further discussion," said Garcia, the brand new House District 46 lawmaker. "But I liked the portions of his speech about expanding our treatment for people with mental health problems. The root of these (gun violence incidents) is often mental illness." "

They are like locusts.

That is one of the problems with migration from blue states to red ones. Voting patterns tend to be generational, not based on the results of votes cast. So someone fleeing a blue state for a better job environment in a red state still votes the same way they did back where they came from. These people do not associate their habit of voting for Democrats with the failure of the state they just had to leave. All too often people just don't make the connection - they just can't see cause and effect.

I know, I live in Northern Virginia and we have the same problem here. It was once a reddish area, now it's blue - and getting deeper blue by the year. Virginia is still red on the state level. We are right to work, have a good conservative governor and a competitive business environment - but the more people that move here the bluer the state gets. Locusts I tell you. I see them come in here from the NorthEast and rust belt blue states to find work. When I have occasion to ask these people about their politics they almost always turn out to be liberals that fully intend to keep voting for Democrats in their new home. I sometimes ask if maybe they think it could be Democrat policies that wrecked their home states and forced them to move in the first place, and I've never found one that sees the connection. Seriously, not one.
