The Republican speaker of the Virginia House has ruled against a GOP-backed redistricting plan that was muscled through a divided Virginia Senate while a veteran black Democratic lawmaker was attending President Barack Obama’s inauguration. …

The move set off a firestorm among Senate Democrats, who’d threatened to deny the Senate’s 20 Republicans the necessary 21st vote to advance key initiatives. …

Republicans are such cowards.

Elections have consequences - unless you are a RINO.

I was hoping we'd be in a position to get rid of this Barker guy next election for the state Senate. He's the puke who went crazy with the robocalls.

If we cut him free from that part of Alexandria that'd gone into the new 'black' district, he'd lose to a Republican here.

Frankly we need to immediately REMOVE this stupid RINO from the Speakership of the Virginia House. He's no good for Republicans and he's no good for Virginia!

I’m from your neck of the woods and I think redistricting should be allowed only one time a decade. I don’t think one should redistrict on a whim, even if it helps the home team.

Here’s a fine example of unbiased reporting from the article:

“On Jan. 21, Senate Republicans blindsided Democrats when they took advantage of the absence of Democratic Sen. Henry Marsh of Richmond to push through a plan creating a new black-majority Senate district and effectively strengthening Republicans’ chances in other districts. Marsh was attending the inauguration in Washington.”

Sounds like a standard Rat maneuver. Blindsided my ass.

By the way, what kind of legislature is this? One guy can "rule against", without a vote of the whole chamber?

Speaker Bill Howell announced Wednesday that the Senate-approved amendment redrawing state Senate district lines was not germane, or relevant, to a bill making technical changes to state House districts,

Always remember-it’s only Gerrymandering when Republicans do it. When DemocRats do it, it’s “promoting equal voting rights”.

I’m surprised the AP writer didn’t use that word.

This guy is a Republican! Unfortunately there is no worse thing we can say in polite company. He also shot down the “One CD win = one ECV” plan. Thus the term Republican fits best.
