Calif. seeks to adopt nation's toughest gun laws

Weeks after New York enacted the nation's toughest gun laws, California lawmakers said Thursday they want their state to do even more in response to recent mass shootings, particularly the Connecticut school massacre.

Democrats who control the state Legislature revealed 10 proposals that they said would make California the most restrictive state for possessing firearms.

They were joined at a Capitol news conference by San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, along with several police chiefs.

"California has always been a leader on the issue of gun safety," Villaraigosa said. "New York has stepped up and stepped forward. California needs to answer the call."

Among the measures is one that would outlaw the future sale of semi-automatic rifles with detachable magazines. The restriction would prevent quick reloading by requiring bullets to be loaded one at a time.

Lawmakers also want to make some prohibitions apply to current gun owners, not just to people who buy weapons in the future.

Like New York, California also would require background checks for buying ammunition and would add to the list of prohibited weapons.

Those buying ammunition would have to pay a fee and undergo an initial background check by the state Department of Justice, similar to what is required now before buyers can purchase a weapon. Subsequent background checks would be done instantly by an ammunition seller checking the Justice Department's records.

The legislation also would ban possession of magazines holding more than 10 bullets, even by those who now own them legally. All weapons would have to be registered.

They should name their new law after the rogue cop on the run. After all, it’s what he wanted.

All weapons would have to be registered.

I'd love to hear exactly WHY weapons should be registered, unless it's to facilitate their confiscation at a later date. Even the most steadfast anti-gunner would have to admit that registration would in no way stop a single criminal act.

It would be more appropriate to name after their idol ADOLF HITLER.

The answer is simple: an initiative to amend the State Constitution as follows,

All Laws restricting or infringing on any inalienable right, enumerated in the US Constitution, SHALL APPLY TO ALL PERSONS IN THE STATE, There SHALL be no Exceptions.

California can adopt the gun control measures adopted by their fellow mexican comrades. Let's see how that works out for them. Might as well hand the state over to mexico. Get into bed with socialists, especially mexican socialists, and complain when you get screwed. Mexico is a socialist-fascist country, no bones about it. Keep encouraging their errant behavior, and Californians will get to suffer the consequences.

Not a single thing proposed by CA Democrat politicians would have stopped the leftwingtard nutcase named Christopher Jordan Dorner.

Are the Democrats actually trying to protect him and others like him? ~ by disarming the potential victims, these crazy killers can just run wild!

Voting has cosequences. They will probably get much of what they are proposing into law. CA is now completely run by the far left with super majorities to do as they please.

California politicians are completely in bed with the chinese communist government. The Chicoms want gun control in california, and they will get it because we have a government now that is as corrupt as they are.

It is so silly.

Enact all the gun laws you want Cali. You’ll have to close your borders next to enforce that. LOL

*grin* OK, I'll bite. They'll say: "If it saves only ONE Life!"

In other words, if some new law / act / measure / gun-free zone has the "potential" to deter or even marginally slow down yet another looney from going off then we need it now!

After all, think of all the laws, regulations, and standards someone like an LAPD LEO has to abide by, and we just know we can call them and be totally safe! They are the only ones who should be carrying those dangerous 'guns' anyway!P

They are still trying to find a way to get around Prop 15 that failed back in 1982.

That was the vote to ban handguns that was guaranteed to pass by a 2to 1 margin! Champaign corks were popping at Handgun Control Inc ahead of time!

It failed by a 2 to 1 margin leaving the legislators stunned. They have been trying to work around that ever since.

Admission that it wouldn’t stop any criminal acts is not in their thought process. Not relevant to their ultimate goal. Radical left wing extremist demokkkrats will do everything in their power for control since that is what the whole thing is about anyway. Nothing to do with guns. The bad guys are laughing their butts off. On another note, looks like former cops should all be on the prohibited list now. Especially ones from LA.

Molon labe.

Another FReeper Posted that the CA Politicos were a little too quiet after the Sandy Hook Shootings. Well, no more.

I sold my Pre Ban AK “Assault Weapon” to a Retired NYPD Cop since I couldn't sell it here it CA. I wanted to get off the “list”, so after I sold the Evil AK I bought a CA Legal AR-15.

So here we go again, if I don't comply I become an overnight Felon although nothing has changed from one day to the next. The old Soviet Union has been resurrected.

Well, there will be no compliance this time around. I learned my lesson and will do what's necessary to protect my Freedom until the day I can move to one of the Free States. My non-compliant firearms may have to take a vacation to an undisclosed location since I refuse to Register my Guns with the Nazi Party, and Nazis they are.

Come to Texas. We follow the Constitution here. You can even get your old AK back. We have plenty here.

Let's see, release a bunch of prisoners into the population because of the already overcrowded and impacted prison system and attempt to incrementally disarm the population. Sounds like another 'successful' Democratic plan.

..They were joined at a Capitol news conference by San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

Mr. Villaraigosa couldn't keep his own pistol in his pants (ahem!), yet he wants to dictate to law abiding CA citizens what they can and cannot do.

noo york and kalipornia and several other blue libtard states are in a race to the bottom. All will lose.

Soon this country will be divided into free red states and tyrannical blue states. owebama’s goal is to force tyranny on ALL of the red states too.

This ride is getting bumpy.

If we’re lucky, we can get these same freeloading, California politicians the toughest prison sentences for violating the Second Amendment rights of the people of California.
