Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) took to Twitter on Thursday to downplay this week's issue of Time Magazine, which features a cover story labeling him "The Republican Savior."

There is only one savior, and it is not me. #Jesus

—Marco Rubio (@marcorubio) Feb. 7, 2013

The profile focuses on Rubio's push for comprehensive immigration reform, calling him the "great Hispanic hope of the Republican Party" after a 2012 election cycle that saw Hispanic voters break heavily for President Obama.

He did the right thing here.

Obama hasn’t admitted yet that he isn’t the Savior.

The GOP does not need to promote a ‘movie star’ candidate. We need a mature, former Governor with Washington experience and military credentials. Anyone fit the bill??

Tired of the ‘hollywood’ celebrity types the Dems promote. We don’t need to follow the sheeple approach.

Rubio is being prepared & groomed, but he needs more time.

He displayed more humility than most politicians. They think they are God.

Time knew exactly what they were doing. Their goal was to cause a little more ill will in the GOP.

Divide and conquer.

I really like Rubio. I feel He is an excellent communicator. He really explains things very clearly. As sad as it may be, that is needed in today’s age. We have to have candidates that can explain positions clearly and not let the MSM dictate those positions.

Obviously, I’d like to see more specific policy proposals. But that will come with time. But I really am liking this Rubio feller.

The moment Rubio becomes a threat to the commies, they will start destroying him. They can’t allow a conservative Hispanic to enter the public mind. He just might get elected and destroy the communist structure that they have built up.

I’ve always shared that opinion, but my view is changing. I think the presidency is moving into a new era, given the presence of so much media, Internet, and the presence of YouTube and other video. I think the presidency is evolving into more of a spokesman role. Media savvy and great appeal is the way to get elected. The presidency is such a big role, it is more about the team implemented. The spokesperson goes across the realm from news to entertainment and pulls the masses in to get their support. The ads of an occasional Sunday talk show by a candidate or president is over. It is about getting on morning radio, Internet videos, appearances at sporting events and more. The average joe doesn’t tune into the news anymore. It is 100% about media appeal. If that intersects with a two term governor, all the better, but governing experience and time in office is less important than at any time in history.

We will soon see the likes of Cory Booker and Mayor Castro from San Antonio skyrocket to the top of their party past guys like Cuomo for the same reason. The voter doesn’t give a crap about expertise, achievement, or military experience.

when Time magazine promotes a candidate, you can be sure that candidate is aligned with progressives
