Yeah, right. Where I grew up in Michigan was under a half a mile of ice during the last geological epoch. To say that it won’t happen again is akin to standing in front of a speeding freight train and ordering it to stop by holding your hand up. Just isn’t going to happen. Human beings have no significant control over long term weather patterns on this planet. There’s simply not enough energy sources available to us on this planet to make a difference. Virtually all of the energy we consume is in the form of concentrated sunshine, and an insignifcant portion at that.

What do you bet they are wrong about this too.

The wooly catapillars are predicting a long cold
four more years.

So, the arrogance of Obama has now surpassed that of King Canute.

The junk scientists surpassed Canute long ago. But they're sneaky -- nobody will likely live long enough to prove them wrong. Besides, there's a part of human nature that really wants to believe this nonsense. Scottish journalist Charles Mackey wrote about it in his 1841 book "Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds." People are still just as gullible.

In a rational world, delay of the next ice age would be considered a good thing.

How can you say it has been delayed indefinitely when the arrival time is indefinite. It’s like saying a bus on a Mexican route is delayed indefinitely when the arrival time is listed as manyaña to begin with.

Yes.

Bingo.

You appear to be up on this, but for those who want more information (ammunition?) right from the climate researchers, in fact, the Earth has on average been gradually cooling (though technically not in an “Ice Age”) for over 40 million years. The gradual overall cooling and the increasing amplitude of the shorter term oscillations seems to roughly coincide with the rise of the Himalayas and the Rockies, so they may be contributing factors.

At any rate, one just has to love the dilemna for the global warmers. IF one accepts that Man has a significant effect, reduce CO2, and maybe drop FAST into the cycle. At at this point, that might be pretty cold...

With the Great Dieoff in the agricultural civilizations that'd grown up in the Americas (circa 1550) the Earth had a temperature drop.

It didn't recover until suficient numbers of European and African settlers had been relocated to the Americas to restart agriculture!

Agriculture has its own CO2 production, but it's mostly in balance, but it has a METHANE production that's far more effective in retaining atmospheric heat.

There is no doubt that if we tamp down the CO2 and Methane we will find vast ice sheets bearing down on us from Baffin Island within months!

The Earth has its cycles but some of the warming and cooling trends over the last 9,500 years are probably more related to hanta virus epidemics, plagues of black death, and maybe other viruses or bacteria ~ when those plagues kill humans by the millions they wipe out agriculture and cut way back on the methane cycle. This cools the Earth. Recovery takes a long time.

“But now, because of humans, the committee says, the next ice age has been “delayed indefinitely.”

This is what passes for science in this day and age.

...humans have so altered the composition of the atmosphere that the next glaciation has now been delayed indefinitely.

Damn! I was SO looking forward to freezing and starving to death.

You may get your chance, but it will probably be the policies of our elected officials who do that, not mankind at large.

Global Cooling: The Coming Ice Age

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttLBqB0qDko

Watch the video. The second half of it shows that, contrary to the latest government report (the article you have posted), it was not just the press who were pushing the Ice Age Alarmism in 1971-3. Scientists were sounding the alarm. Some of the same scientists who are now pushing global warming alarmism.

Yes Ernest. And the composite sets of criminals across the board think they are going to get away with claims that bear no resemblance to the sciences involved.
I should not even give them a ground to allow for them to fit into the real science communities that study these matters.
