PRECIOUS IN HIS SIGHT

Just a children's song remembered from a Sunday School class long ago: "Red and yellow, black and white; they are precious in his sight; Jesus loves the little children of the world." But it expresses a profound truth...one that might change the world if we took it seriously. Sort of like the lesson in the poem a friend sent me yesterday. It's worth more than a second reading. It may reveal ... or remind you... of more truth than you expect!

"We pray for the children who put chocolate fingers everywhere, who like to be tickled, who stomp in mud puddles and ruin their new pants, who sneak popsicles before supper, who erase holes in their Math workbooks, who can never find their shoes.

"And we pray for those who stare at photographers from behind barbed wire, who've never squeaked across the floor in new sneakers, who never "counted potatoes," who are born in places we wouldn't be caught dead, who never go to the circus, who live in an X rated world.

"We pray for children who bring sticky kisses and fistfuls of dandelions, who sleep with the dog and bury goldfish, who hug us in a hurry and forget their lunch money, who cover themselves with Band-Aids and sing off-key, who squeeze toothpaste all over the sink, who slurp their soup.

"And we pray for those who never get dessert, who watch their parents watch them die, who have no safe blanket to drag behind, who can't find any bread to steal, who don't have any rooms to clean up, whose pictures aren't on anyone's dressers, whose monsters are real.

"We pray for children who spend all their allowance before Tuesday, who throw tantrums in the grocery store, who pick at their food, who like ghost stories, who shove dirty clothes under the bed and never rinse out the tub, who get visits from the Tooth Fairy, who don't like to be kissed in front of the car pool, who squirm in church and scream on the phone, whose tears we sometimes laugh at, and whose smiles can make us cry.

"And we pray for those whose nightmares come in the daytime, who will eat anything, who have never seen a dentist, who aren't spoiled by anybody, who go to bed hungry and cry themselves to sleep, who live and move but have no being.

"We pray for children who want to be carried, and for those who must; for those we never give up on, and for those who don't get a chance; for those we smother, and for those who will grab the hand of anybody kind enough to offer."

The author is anonymous. The message is timeless. Like the account recorded long ago by an observer who recalled: "At that time the disciples came to Jesus saying, 'Who then is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?' Then Jesus called a little child to him... and said, 'Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest... (And) Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me.'" (Matthew. 18:1-5)

It's not just another activity for paid staff. It shapes what we - and our world - are already becoming. Partners, anyone?

CAPT J. David Atwater, CHC, USN

A Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours, Cindy.

Thank you for the links.

We have had high winds again and it is in the upper 30s. Lots of melting going on. I can hear the drip, drip, drip off the roof....more ice on the driveway. Streets are not going to be fun. At least it is the weekend, and NOT Boston.

GOD IS PRO-LIFE!!!

Pray For The End Of Abortion, Euthanasia, Assisted Suicide, Infanticide, And For The Defeat Of The Culture Of Death!!!

The Catechism of the Catholic Church
On Respect for Human Life
Sections 2259 – 2283
(From the Holy See Website)

For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.
I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.

Psalm 139:13-16 (KJV)

PRAYER TO END ABORTION

Lord God, I thank you today for the gift of my life,
And for the lives of all my brothers and sisters.
I know there is nothing that destroys more life than abortion,
Yet I rejoice that you have conquered death
by the Resurrection of Your Son.
I am ready to do my part in ending abortion.
Today I commit myself
Never to be silent,
Never to be passive,
Never to be forgetful of the unborn.
I commit myself to be active in the pro-life movement,
And never to stop defending life
Until all my brothers and sisters are protected,
And our nation once again becomes
A nation with liberty and justice
Not just for some, but for all,
Through Christ our Lord. Amen!

PRAYER TO SAINT MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL

Sancte Michael Archangele,
defende nos in proelio;
contra nequitiam et insidias diaboli esto praesidium.
Imperet illi Deus, supplices deprecamur:
tuque, Princeps militiae Caelestis,
satanam aliosque spiritus malignos,
qui ad perditionem animarum pervagantur in mundo,
divina virtute in infernum detrude.
Amen.

Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host -
by the Divine Power of God -
cast into hell, Satan and all the evil spirits,
who wander about the world seeking the destruction of souls.
Amen.

Pope Leo XIII

Amazing Grace
(Click)

By John Newton

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found;
Was blind, but now I see.
.
’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, .
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed!
.
Through many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.
.
The Lord has promised good to me,
His Word my hope secures;
He will my Shield and Portion be,
As long as life endures.
.
Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess, within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.
.
The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun forbear to shine;
But God, Who called me here below,
Will be forever mine.
.
When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we’d first begun.

"Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. " (Joshua 1:9 KJV)

DEAR LORD, who suffered torment, agony, and death upon the Cross to free our souls from the chains of iniquity, protect and defend our troops. Guide them in the performance of their duties. Strengthen them to endure hardship, danger and deprivation in Your service. Let their efforts free the people of Iraq and Afghanistan from the chains of terror and slavery, foster a lasting peace in the region, and bring all to a greater share in Your Mercy.

Amen.

Good for you...you definitely need time for just the 2 of you.

Sorry your Mom is without power. Good thing your sis was able to get her into a motel.

Looks like temps will be in the high 30s and mid 40s over the next week. Should help with getting rid of the snow.

And you suggestion is top notch!! albore and harry would be contributing something good for a change.

Yes, prayers for all while they dig out.

Mom is home now, and the heat is back on. She is showing awful signs of dementia and confusion, due to bad Rx and Trauma. Please pray for her mind to come back...I am so worried about her!

I thought that she was at a hotel...but they TURNED her and my sister AWAY (after taking their credit card info over the phone!) and my sister had to seek refuge in the home of a church friend in Braintree (many miles away through snow choked streets). I can’t believe the evil and incompetence of this world we live in these days.

I usually don’t share my “issues” on FR, as everybody has problems...but you folks are my best FRiends these days.

This is a good place to share such “issues”...comfort from friends, and often ideas for solutions to problems are available.

Prayers on the way for the needs of your Mom, as well as prayers of peace for you. Prayers of thanks to your sis and BIL, and their friends. They need to MAKE SURE they weren’t charged by those “thieves” at the hotel.

There IS evil and incompetence these days...indeed quite sad the dumbing down of our beloved America.

Unfortunately high winds and temps in the high 30s today. Flocking on trees is all gone and lots of dripping going on.

Thanks, Lady J, for checking in....that’s a whole bunch of snow!

Sure glad you kept your power. There is something to be said for being prepared.

The weather report for the next week looks like good melting weather.

Stay safe and warm. ((HUGS))

Yes...tomorrow is a new day, and Sis will be calling my Mom’s REAL doctor, the Credit Card Company, and probably the Attorney general as well.

I will be posting a prayer request tomorrow morning, along with the Jerusalem Thread.

This has eclipsed the Great Blizzard of 78, not only in volume of snow, but in the hardship to the people of Boston.
