Debate simmers over doctors asking about guns

Do you have a gun in your home?

For some, that's a loaded question - particularly when asked by a doctor.

A debate is simmering over when and whether physicians should be allowed to talk to their patients about firearms.

Doctor groups say physicians are obligated to warn their patients about guns along with other health risks, such as riding in a car without wearing a seat belt. However, gun rights advocates balk at what they see as a needless invasion of privacy and blatant attempt at gun control advocacy.

It would be wonderful if we could proactively preempt the whole discussion. Right now compose a threatening petition which all doctors get and they must fill out and send to us and our willing insurers. The questionnaire would aim at the doctors’ clear knowledge and backing of the U.S. constitution and be designed to secure the doctors’ understanding of the current and dire threat to our liberty and safety as individuals as the illegitimate regime “headed” by an unconstitutionally installed narcissist and elected by pathologically insane mob (with the help of mobster tactics and complicit Republican Party political machine which neutralized if not destroyed numerous constitutionally sound candidates for the sake of losing centrists.)
Said constitutional questionnaire which we require our potential doctors to fill-out will be aimed not only at the unconstitutional bent on meddling in the affairs of the (armed) resisters to tyranny, but also the unsound cooperation of doctors with an incompetent government which has absolutely no business in attempting to manage healthcare as it drives our republic deeper and deeper into international debt (putting ours and our offspring’s life in imminent danger of slavery to lender nations.)
If the doctor refuses to satisfactorily complete said questionnaire, he gets no business from us who initiated it. May such be soon composed and many good citizen patriots back it to the shame of the sham administration.

“Sounds like your kids need to be trained to also give a polite “no” or “I don’t know”. Docs against Glocks think that kids will be more likely to spill the beans to the godlike figure in the white lab coat looming over them.”

Clearly you go after the kids. But training them to lie is a LOT MORE than just about firearms. For example, if you spank them and they spill the beans, you might just get visited by a social worker. If you’re rude to the social worker, you might get set-up by her and it’s bye-bye kids, until you can prove that you’re a fit parent.

But if your kid understands to simply say NO to that question, then nothing happens. And if your kid understands that saying YES to that question might land them with a new set of parents, you will have the kid’s attention and they will obey you.

One of my kids got injured at home. It was the kind of injury that might get reported as abuse. So I scattered out of town booked a motel, and mom took him to the ER. No problem...with dad not around, no reason to suspect abuse.

Parenting today is tough, when you have an army of people dedicated to separating you from your kids.

“The immediate counter question is to ask the doctor about their firearms training and certifications, their knowledge of safe handling and storage techniques and their legal liability should patients follow their advice.”

You are absolutely right: doctors are required to pass certification examinations to show qualification to advise patients in their specialty. There is no reason for a patient NOT to question a doctor’s qualification to advise about gun safety.

I believe NRA should have a doctor’s certification course: if the doctor can’t display the certificate, the patient should not feel it necessary to answer any questions.

Unfortunately, gun safety for a lib is that no citizen can own a gun. There are special exceptions when they can own a gun. However, common man should never own one. Ask one, they will tell you.

In my mind, the government should assume everyone owns a gun and leave us alone because it is none of their business.

Do you have a gun in your home?

When asked by a Doctor the only reply to this is
Sorry that is not relevant to the medical issue I am here to be seen for and am paying you for.

Doctor groups say physicians are obligated to warn their patients about guns .......

Dr.> Do you have any guns in your home?

Patient> Let me see your certification in firearms safety or instruction and proof that your malpractice insurance covers any injury or death resulting from your engaging in such activity.

Jee you ask me every flippin time, if your computerized medical database that you are sharing with dear leader is so flippin good than why don't you have that info in front of you on the I-Pad you are holding which isn't HIPA compliant I might add...

So while you are busting our stones about our Cholesterol numbers, Moochelle, can quaf down 3000 calories at a sitting and eat all the Kobe' Beef she can grift?

Why would a certification be reason to feel compelled to answer unconstitutional questions? If the People are willing to cede their rights and freedoms because someone has a "certification", you can bet that there will be sufficient "certifications to ensure all our rights are wrested away.

It was a primary goal of the fascists & the communists to separate children from their parents at the earliest possible age in order to begin their indoctrination into the new collectivized social order.

Our nations’ social workers & CPS departments work from exactly the same impulse, IMO.

Mr Ditter and I have our yearly physicals coming up in a few months. Our doc is a big lib, I am already wondering if he will ask either of us if we have a gun in the house and how we will answer. “No doctor we have no guns, Mr Ditter killed all those deer, bears and elk with his bare hands”.

I have no doubt that the mindset of most (if not all) social workers is that the kids would be just fine, except for their f*^&%n parents. In some cases they’re probably right, but when they extend it to conservative (i.e., traditional) parents, they have to be stopped.

I think lack of a certification would give a patient more comfort in not answering such a question.

I am a doctor, and I do not discuss firearms with my patients unless we are discussing the merits of a particular firearm.

However, the leftist doctors will sign on to this unconstitutional questioning, and patients WILL feel intimidated.

“A debate is simmering over when and whether physicians should be allowed to talk to their patients about firearms.”

Nobody should be in the position to tell a physician what they can or cannot talk with a patient about. That is between the doctor and the patient. I can see instances where it may be appropriate for a MD to ask a patient about any guns they have, especially if the doctor suspects some type of mental stress or disorder. But the government has no say so in what a doctor and a patient discuss.

“Most doctors aren’t going to get into this type of questioning. They’ve got less than three minutes that they want to deal with you, and just move on.”

Mostly correct. . .from what I have seen, they ask the question on the form you fill out when you first visit them AND during subsequent times you fill in follow-on paperwork.

I did have ONE doc personally ask me back in 2004. Yes, way back then.

My answer: “Is that question medically relevant to the reason I am seeing you? If not, then I suggest we limit our conversation to issues that are medically relevant and stop wasting our time.”

And denied medical care for those like you (and me) that refuse to answer. . . and for those that DO answer, this is a major step in identifying gun owners that otherwise would not be known to the government.

A national gun registry under the guise of “medical treatment.”

But under obamacare and a national medical registry. . .this confidentiality will be no more. . .you know. . with the aim of protecting the ‘chilren.

“I asked the Doctor where these questions came from and his comment was “homeland security”. “

Kinda puts the lie to the notion that this is a “healthcare” issue, doesn’t it?

By the way, when’s the last time your Doc asked if you wore your seatbelt?

As a veteran, I typically have an annual exam at the area VA. During the pre-exam questions asked by the nurse, never has the question of gun ownership in my home been asked. I would assume that just being a veteran automatically puts you on their “gun owner” list.

Bobl, good advice. I’ve had a LTCH for 24 years so they already know me. We have to stop them in the legislatures.
