NEW YORK (AP) — If you don't like coffee or tea, Mountain Dew has a new breakfast drink that might perk you up.

PepsiCo Inc. is rolling out a new drink called Kickstart this month that has Mountain Dew flavor but is made with 5 percent juice and Vitamins B and C, along with an extra jolt of caffeine.

The company, based in Purchase, N.Y., is hoping to boost sales by reaching Mountain Dew fans at a new time of day: morning.

Coffee is sad because Mountain Dew is launching a breakfast drink

Have you ever had breakfast and said to yourself, “I wish this was more disgusting”? Does Mountain Dew have a product for you! PepsiCo Inc. has announced that its Dew brand is moving into the morning market with Kickstart, a lightly caffeinated drink made with Mountain Dew flavor and 5 percent juice. The beverage will be sold in the same 16-ounce cans as popular energy drinks. Always wanted to combine the radioactive taste of Dew with the jittery paranoia of a Red Bull, then cut it with just enough “juice” to pretend you’re a healthy person? Kickstart’s your new best friend in a can!

When I was in college (late 80s), I recall Coke running a short-lived (I guess it fizzled) ad campaign on campus encouraging us to "have a Coke in the morning".

I used to work with a woman who would fix breakfast for her husband and two sons but she would not eat. Then she would come to work and drink a can of Coke and eat a Twinkie for her breakfast.

She was smart, healthy and average weight, but she had this weird breakfast habit.

Until I went completely off soda 5 years ago it still was... ;-) Nothing wrong with a Mountain Dew in the morning!

I read somewhere 15% of all soft drinks are consumed in the morning. I was a big Diet Coke in the morning drinker for years. About a year ago I became one of those annoying loose tea drinkers. Much more pretentious.

They need to just cut to the chase and “Jungle Juice” it up by adding some alcohol for good measure.

My mother in law was a Dental Hygienist, said she could tell a Mountain Dew drinker from the first look into his mouth.

By the dentures when older.

Yes, you probably do remember that. :) After seeing some old ads from the 1960’s, I was inspired to prepare it for some Fall parties last year. Not bad...

You heat Dr. Pepper in a saucepan just short of boiling, and then pour it over a thinly sliced round of lemon in a coffee cup. Let it sit for 30sec and enjoy. The strange thing is that no one can tell what it is at first, but after you let them in on the secrect, it clearly tastes like hot, lemony Dr. Pepper... lol

People that like sweet hot spiced tea will generally like it.
