Natasha Harris, a mother of eight, drank up to 10 litres of Coke a day, equivalent to more than twice the 400mg recommended safe limit of caffeine, an inquest into her death was told.
Releasing his decision on Tuesday, coroner David Crerar found that she died of cardiac arrhythmia caused by the effects of caffeine, as well as poor nutrition.
Christopher Hodgkinson, her de facto partner, had told the inquest that Ms Harris was addicted to Coca-Cola.
"The first thing she would do in the morning was have a drink of Coke, and the last thing she would do in the day was have a drink of Coke by her bed," he said.
She also smoked about 30 cigarettes a day and ate very little.
Ms Harris, who lived in the southern city of Invercargill, died on February 25, 2010 from cardiac arrest.
The inquest heard that Ms Harris's teeth had been pulled out because they became rotten, and that at least one of her children was born having no tooth enamel.

Back in the 1990s I found that caffeine diet coke gave me a buzz stimulus high (that coffee does not) and after drinking 2L per day for many months I swore it off completely.
And its loaded with acid too, dissolves teeth enamel.

Anything carried to extremes is probably a bad idea. It's common knowledge that Coca-Cola contains caffeine; she knew it. It's also preserved in part by phosphoric acid, which may or may not play merry hell with calcium metabolism.
One Coke a day probably won't have any effect upon you. 10 L a day isn't such a good idea--10 L a day of anything but water probably isn't a good idea.
Moderation...

How would drinking coke cause a fetus to not develop tooth enamel? That doesn’t make any sense to me.

I drank it for about 4 years, at the end I was drinking 6 to 8 cans a day. It was like an addiction and I still have certain triggers that make me desire red can coke

one of her children was born having no tooth enamel.Wouldn't be more surprising if a baby was born WITH tooth enamel.

I worked at a convenience store in the mid eighties and one of the benefits was free sodas. It wasn't until I'd stopped working there that I realized how addictive the stuff was.

Unless your some kind of athlete, over 2 gallons a day of any beverage is just ridiculous. She was drinking 5 TIMES the daily fluid recommendation of a half gallon - and anyone who has tried to drink 8 / 8 ounce glasses of water in a day knows how much that really is.
It sad that it killed her, but Bless her heart...the girl just wasn't right.

RE :

It was like an addiction and I still have certain triggers that make me desire red can coke” Same here, it started with a 12 oz can two days a week, I remember drinking it feeling like the sun just came out after a rainy week and within a few years I was drinking two liters per day just to feel like staying out of bed.
I dont crave it now because I dont go near it and those past feelings are very distant.
