Rep. Jackson Lee warns against more spending cuts: 'We're at the bone almost'

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) urged her colleagues to reach a compromise to prevent spending cuts through sequestration, arguing that government programs are already as lean as they can be.

"We're at the bone almost, and sequester, that is across-the-board cuts, will literally destroy us and put us in a recession," she said on the House floor Wednesday.

She called on Republicans to meet Democrats at the negotiating table and rejected the idea that President Obama delivered a partisan State of the Union address Tuesday night.

"May I ask them to take some cotton out of their ears, because in actuality, the president extended his hands of friendship," she said. "I don't want to hear the fact that the president is divisive. The president is leading, and he's led well."

Jackson Lee suggested lawmakers should take inspiration from President Lincoln’s leadership during the Civil War.

"I stand here as a freed slave because this Congress came together. Are we going to be able to do it today to free America?"

Jackson Lee was one of a handful of Democrats who took to the House floor to warn that the $85 billion in cuts to 2013 spending in the sequester, due to take place in March, would devastate people who rely on government services.

Now I’ve heard everything. According to SJL, she was once a slave.

I stand here as a freed slave because this Congress came together.

Her crown weave makes time travel possible.

Actually, as slaves go.. she would have been fired.

...would devastate people who rely on government services.

To what 'services' does this marxist idiot refer? Her constituents rely on federal handouts that have been redistributed from the money the IRS mugs us to get each and every April 15th.

I'm getting sick of everyone referring to the money shoveled out of DC as 'taxpayer money.' It ceased to be ours when the central socialist government robbed us to pay the lazy asses and fund the expansion of their empire.

In the past couple days, I read about how the State Department will be spending $10,000,000 on crystal glassware over the next 5 years, and how the 0bama phones program wastes something like 3 billion dollars a year. There are, no doubt, thousands of other examples of how the expenses have not been “cut to the bone”. Tell the Dems to quit whining. I am tired of paying for all of this kind of sh!t.

There are times i wish i was in office, in the room with a person like her so i could say,”Cut to the bone? If i didn’t already know what an idiot you are i might believe you.”
That would feel awesome.

"... arguing that government programs are already as lean as they can be."

Oh, that Sheila Lee Jackson! What a card! A real knee slapper, but wait

"I stand here as a freed slave because this Congress came together. Are we going to be able to do it today to free America?"

"A freed slave" - did she get Ancestry.com for Christmas?

Shout it from the rooftops, Sheila Jackson Lee is "A Freed Slave" who demoralizes her staff and throws cell phones, etc at them when she is outraged. And, she is often outraged.

Plus, she is an "Aisle Hog".

Ah, yes.

Sometimes she goes with the Double Crown but for big events, she'll drag out the Triple Crown.

I wonder how many hours she sat on her fat butt while they worked with pliers and wire cutters to tie that mess up like that.
