Proposal: No permit needed to carry concealed weapon in Utah
KSL ^ | 1/23/13 | Andrew Adams

SALT LAKE CITY — Permits wouldn't be necessary for most people to carry concealed weapons in Utah if a state lawmaker gets his way.

Rep. John Mathis, R-Vernal, is sponsoring H.B. 76, which allows essentially any law-abiding citizen over the age of 21 in the state to carry a gun, openly or concealed.

Utah would effectively become a "constitutional carry" state if the measure is approved. That term refers to a state where carrying a concealed weapon isn't restricted by law.

It's unclear whether the bill can clear the Utah Legislature.

Utah is a beautiful state. We drove through it last summer, and it had the best infrastructure of any state from AZ to WA.

Utah has a pretty good business issuing Concealed Carry Permits to non-residents. I wonder if this would interfere with that source of income.

Mathis is just another liberal ... a RINO. Why the age 21 when we send 18 year olds to war? ( or when my children have been trained in the use of weapons since they were seven or eight.)

I am just being contrary.

Good luck, Utah.

We had a similar bill introduced here in Colorado that was recently voted down along party lines by the same state senate committee that just approved making adultery legal.

Utah is on my list of places to move after Colorado finishes falling to the marxists.

“Utah is on my list of places to move after Colorado finishes falling to the marxists. “

Twenty Eight of their 29 County Sheriff’s just signed a joint letter advisng that they will support the 2A. The only dissenter was the Ahole from Salt Lake County. You can trash the Mormons if you like, but they have a state that does believe in the Constitution! Just don’t know why they don’t excommunicate Harry Reid. But then, the Catholics won’t kick out either Pelousey or Biteme!

I doubt it would for two reasons:

1.) Utahns who want to travel in other states would need local permits.

2.) The Utah permit would remain one of the most widely recognized.

We have a decent Sheriff in my neck of the woods, too. He's unfortunately outweighed by the communists on capital hill.

Mormon's, as a group, are some of the best conservatives there are. I find it reprehensible that there are folks that call themselves conservatives and Christians that spend their every waking moment bashing them.

They do need to cut Harry Reid's lying, dishonest butt loose.

He’s probably cribbing the law from Wyoming, where we have the exact same restriction.

That said, the “magic” of age 21 is thanks to those tireless moralizing witches at Mothers Against Drunk Driving, who worked to raise the drinking age to 21 when the voting age (and age of all other majority) was 18 and the BAC limits down to 0.08%.
