When you have nothing that a state can seize (a business or a residence) I don't see how they can enforce a tax decision...although I could be wrong.

Went to renew my FL drivers license this week. Turns out I can't, because I'm on some national registry because VA suspended my license. Shortly after moving from VA to FL (over a decade ago), I transferred my insurance, license, and title to FL. When VA was alerted that I had dropped my VA insurance policy, they cited me for not having insurance on a vehicle (that was not registered in VA) and suspended my VA drivers license (which I had given up months earlier). They made the mistake, but I have to pay for it (if I want a drivers license).

Uh, no, you can’t.

I couldn’t even buy farm equipment out of state, which has no registration or licensing, without paying sales/use tax in Nevada. You’ll get away with it... for at most a year. Then the assessor comes out to your operation, looks at the list of equipment you’ve declared and what he sees on your outfit, and you get to explain the difference. The best you can get away with is claiming you’re renting the equipment and you don’t own it.

When you go to register a car you bought out of state in Nevada, you’ll get nicked for the tax unless things have changed since I left 2007... which I rather doubt.

“bussed to live on the streets of Butte”

Butte is about the coldest place in MT to live this time of year..I'd chose almost anyplace else but Butte for a one way bus ticket

I took the Dog to Billings to catch a cheaper flight (though I had to sleep overnight at the a/p) but the fellow travelers were a little bit sketchy.

The same thing happened to me when I was living in central MA. I found a cheaper insurance policy than the one I had so I bought that one and let the old one expire. The old insurance company had the RMV pull my reg. even though it was perfectly legal. I found out when a town cop nabbed me about 3/4 of a mile from my house. The admitted the mistake but I still had a moving violation on my CDL,Two days taken off work for court appearances, A $350 tow charge and $50 of storage even though the car was in the pen for less than an hour.

Mandatory insurance is just another Statist scam

I did in in 2004, twice, and again in 2006, more or less.

The car is titled in Oregon, owned by a company, and the DMV is told that while it’s owned in Oregon, it will be driven in NV, so should be registered here. I have a friend with an OR address for the correspondence.

DMV says OK when asked about this, and is happy to have the modest registration fee.

I’ve kept this a secret because they’ll close the loophole, but might as well share with a fellow Freeper.

Back in the Day b4 computerization I had three driver's licenses - Ala., N.Y. and Mass.

NY didn't recognize Ala. and Mass. was receptive to an Ala. license, but didn't revoke it (I later turned it into a Calif. license, but moving around slowed down and as the odd ones expired, I ended up with just one).
