O'Brien has been with CNN since 2003 when she was anchor of 'American morning.' She's now anchor of CNN's current morning show, 'Starting Point,' - a gig that began in January of 2012. The show runs from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Soledad O'Brien says losing her job as CNN's morning host is a 'win-win' because her show has been understaffed and essentially ignored by the network.
O'Brien's firing is one of many major personnel moves made by the network's new chief, Jeff Zucker, who offiically took the reins in January.
She said she knew early on that she wouldn't be part of Zucker's plans for CNN.
'Jeff made it clear that he had a very different vision,' she said, 'and we're going to see how that unfolds. It was never about would I stay or would I go.'
