Sending kids to another state is nothing compared to foreign exchange students who are sent half way around the world. I’d never let my kids in the program but we had an exchange student one year. In that group that came over, one of them was killed in a car accident. Very scary and beyond tragic.

Spending a year in France as an exchange student when I was a teen remains one of the high points in my life. I am so glad that I had that opportunity, and thankful that my mother did not allow fear of what *could* happen to prevent me from having that experience.

Things can happen to people anywhere, at any time. You can't prevent things from happening by preventing your children from having memorable experiences.

Believe me, I would like to see every government owed socialist-entitlement and GODLESS school in this nation shut down.......

....BUT......

This could happen to anyone, anywhere, at anytime. It likely had absolutely noting to do with schooling.

I a sure they will eventually find what killed the lad. I doubt it will be reportted—Yesterdays news.

Maybe, maybe not.

You can find more information about what kills people--sometimes with specific case information--if you make a habit of reading MMWR (Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report) published by the CDC. It is on my "must read" list.

If you come across this one or the girl in Colorado, would you let us know, please?

Is this a government school or private school?

My next door neighbor is a teacher. They are very conservative.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Conservative government school teacher is an oxymoron.

Conservative private school teacher is certainly possible.

But,....This sad incident likely had absolutely NOTHING to do with the type of school attended whether it was a private or home school or one of our nation’s K-12 temples of godless, socialist-entitilement centers of government worship ( misnamed “public school”) It could just as easily happened anywhere at anytime.

I worked at The Anaheim Theme Park for 10 years. People from all over the world visit. I used to fall ill more often than usual. My doctor educated me on washing my hands with soap and hot water as often as possible, using sanitizer, when there was no sink available, not touching surfaces without a paper towel, and not rubbing my eyes. My incidences of illness dropped to about once a year. I’m not saying that would have helped this poor soul, but the news does not surprise me :(

Problem is, you can't live your life based on what you are afraid might happen.

I have one daughter who traveled overseas and is looking at study abroad for a semester.

We let her go and pray for her. Her life is in God's hands and we will see her again some day if something does happen to her.

Considering the freak accidents and incidents and illnesses I've seen people die from here in the US, I don't see that she's in any greater danger overseas.

For that matter, I had a run in with MRSA myself, totally out of the blue. It almost killed me.

I'd never go bungee jumping or parachuting, but otherwise, I don't worry about what is going to happen to me or my kids.

If I find the info in a timely manner, I will. Typically, publications like MMWR can take several months to publish a case. For instance, in May, 2012, the publication reported that a soldier had died in August 2011 from rabies contracted in Afghanistan in January 2011.

Even if it’s next year, I can always resurrect this thread and ping everyone on it.

Sure. As a memory aid, I have saved a Word document to my desktop with links to the threads involved.

It’s possible that there will be other follow-up articles that are a little more timely than the CDC articles. If I come across those, I’ll let you know.
