-—— In the end what counts is output, not input: -——
What a great line. The current president gets bombarded with input an then dithers.

“In reading the whole article, I come away with a bad feeling about Condoleeza Rice! But then we havent had a decent Secretary of State for the entirety of my whole life! Id be interested in other folks take on her.”
I’m with you, Rice seems like a crackpot. One has to wonder whether she got her way (the same way) with Iran, which is why they are where they are.
Bummer - smart lady otherwise, but the State Department does that to people.
“...secretaries and executive assistants were kept out of the loop.”
Aw yes, “executive assistants”, basically Democrat plants that the Republicans are TOO STUPID to figure out.

....well that may be true, don’t forget she was schooled in international relations by the same mentor as Maddy Halfbright, so no surprise that they both think the wrong way.

and there it is...

I should have posted that image. I forgot that disclaimer. I opened that window when the forum was down for days.
It appears to have been one of the ads in the sidebar — when I refused, the ad wouldn’t load. Gosh, I really missed out on something. ;’)
Definitely Important. Thanks.
Condi was used as cover. Stalking horse.
“...we havent had a decent Secretary of State for the entirety of my whole life!”
Diplomats are just lawyers with foreign travel & more banquets. As long as they get something on paper, with the appropriate photo op, everything was a success!
The mission of the State Department is to ensure the continuation of the State Department with all perks & sinecures intact.
Foggy Bottom is a serendipitous euphemism for the State Department.
There is a lot of room for interpretation when there are no vowels!
Thank you for this thought-provoking study.
I’m losing count of Zer0’s half brothers.
Thanks for the ping!
in the first period when I was secretary of state, there was in my office a big globe. And when ambassadors, who were newly going to their posts or in their posts and coming back to visit me, would get ready to leave, I would say to them, “Ambassador, you have one more test before you can go to your post. You have to go over to the globe and prove to me that you can identify your country.” So unerringly, they would go over and they’d spin the globe around and they’d put their finger on the country they were going to, pass the test.
So Mike Mansfield, great elder statesman in America, former Senate majority leader and who had been ambassador to Japan for a while before I was there, and he was a close friend of mine from back when I was in the Nixon administration — so he was visiting and he got ready to leave. I said, “Mike, I got to give you the same test I give everybody else. Before you can go back to Japan, you got to show me that you can go over to the globe and put your finger on your country.” So he went over and he spun this globe around and he put his hand on the United States, said, “That’s my country.”
So I’ve told that, subsequently, to all the ambassadors going out, “Never forget, you’re over there in that country, but your country is the United States. You’re there to represent us. Take care of our interests and never forget it, and you’re representing the best country in the world.”
George Scultz
Thanks for that story - - good stuff!
It is easy to forget that at one time there were Democrats who didn’t hate America.
I misspelled his name - George Shultz. But he was not a Democrat. He was Ronald Reagan’s Secretary of State, and a great one he was.
I know who Shultz was. I was talking about Mike Mansfield.
FRegards,
