In testimony this month in Annapolis, Reh, who oversees the plant, warned lawmakers to consider carefully the company’s future. Reh pointed to the last time Maryland ratcheted up gun restrictions in the 1990s: Beretta responded by moving its warehouse operation to Virginia.

“I think they thought we were bluffing” in the 1990s, Reh said. “But Berettas don’t bluff.”

Relocating high-tech machining equipment and vats of chrome used to plate Beretta barrels would be costly and out of character for a company that is still based in the Italian town where it began in 1526.

The company’s Italian patriarch, Ugo Gussalli Beretta, visited the plant shortly after O’Malley introduced his gun-control bill, and the two discussed the issue. But Reh declined to say if the two reached any decisions about what would happen if the governor’s bill passes.

“All I can tell you is, Mr. Beretta said, ‘There always seems to be a problem with Maryland.’ ”

Baretta, the people of Texas extend you a hearty welcome. We would love for you to bring your plants down here where we respect the 2nd Amendment. As a side benefit, with you guys moving down here, we might be able to finally get some good pizza around here. :-D

The cost of that move would be offset in less than six months by the tax free enviorment in Texas. I bet there are a few states that would pick up 100% of the cost of the entire move and rent you a building for a $1 a year for ten years just to have Beretta move to their state.

Thats how my city lured Cabellas.

Bring those lines to Wisconsin, albeit we have cold weather here. We have some of the best machinists in the world within our borders and moving a line here would be a piece of cake.

“Why expand in a place where the people who built the gun couldn’t buy it?” said Jeffrey Reh, general counsel for Beretta.

Mr. Reh, a better question might be: "Why pay business taxes to a state that wants to destroy you?"

the protest solution is to flood the market with unmarked unstamped 3d created magazines. Make legislation meaningless.

During the CW1, the North had the lion share of arms manufacturing.

It seems that the Blue states are not giving that much thought this time around. Gun and ammo production are all headed Red.

Those of us that live in Texas that do not wish to be a part of a communist dictatorship strongly encourage all gun and bullet manufacturers to move to the once and future Republic of Texas...

BTW... There is a nice little industrial park behind our place with easy (1 mile) access to IH-35 located halfway between DFW and San Antonio, the conservative Heart of Texas.

The bottom line is that blue states are just no longer conducive to business. There are many red states where not only could Beretta have an almost ideal manufacturing set up, with lots of acreage, energy and water for their plant, in a major transportation zone, but they could even have a luxurious “company town” for their executives and employees.

And very little local or state government interference, except in helpful ways they have solicited.

It would be their own version of Walt Disney World.

If MD gets their much coveted people control legislation passed, Beretta should move its operations to a free state and stop all sales of firearms to MD - that includes citizens too.

MD has always been weak on the right to bear arms. In fact, it doesn't even appear in their constitution. This is reason enough for freedom loving citizens to vacate the state.

Beretta is welcome to come to PA. The right to bear arms in PA Shall not be questioned.

I doubt they would have those sort of problems in Arizona or a lot of other places.
