President Obama’s sequester strategy: Divide and conquer

President Obama’s sequester strategy: Divide and conquer By: Carrie Budoff Brown February 26, 2013 04:42 AM EST

President Barack Obama broke Republicans once on taxes — and his risky strategy for winning the sequester fight assumes he’ll do it again.

He will divide, isolate and defeat Republicans using all the powers of his office and all his skills as a political campaigner. As Americans grow frustrated with the cuts, Republicans will reject their party’s no-tax mantra and demand that Congress end the standoff, even if it means raising some new revenue – just the way Obama is demanding.

Obama’s trying to speed this result, by releasing state by state details of the pain and suffering the sequester will cause, all meant to get Republicans to cave. And he’s got the biggest megaphone, hammering this message over and over in a way the divided Republican party cannot.

Except that message could cut both ways.

What if the public agrees that yes, there is a lot of pain and suffering – and turns to Obama wondering, why didn’t you do more to prevent it? That’s what makes some Democrats nervous about the White House’s supreme level of confidence.

Democratic lawmakers, who are unclear about the end game, could succumb to the same public offensive that Obama has been ginning up against Republicans and start demanding that the White House cut its losses and move on to other important second-term initiatives. A GOP proposal to give flexibility to the agency heads on deciding how to administer the cuts could start looking attractive to Democrats as a way out.

the public will agree if the GOP gets out there and beats the drum on this- pointing out what an extreme left winger obama is...they’ve not done this the past five years so i’m not holding out hope..

If the GOPe in the house or senate cave in to the fear mongering of obama and his minions on this, 2014 and 2016 is going to be open season on all republicans in congress.

And what if there is no pain and suffering?

I heard that question being tossed about yesterday - by worried libs. Sorry, no link, I was listening to talk radio.

Well as much as I hate to stick my neck out it appears the GOP is going to stand firm on this one. We can only hope.

Republicans did good yesterday at the press conference but they need to fine tune their message a little

Try :

President Obama says that if he doesnt get another tax increase out of congress now he will .... ....which will hurt Americans...... we need ordinary Americans to call the HW and tell the President to stop the games..

And repeat, and for each threat, making clear that Obama is the cause of Americans pain for political purposes.

Make him own all the bad stuff, its war

Divide, conquer and eliminate.

And, that's exactly what he'll do...or just piss us off.

Imagine what his and our world would look like with an honest media instead of the one stream media we have now.

This is a bubble world and one of these days the obama bubble will pop, just like all the others have or eventually will.

I don’t know what is the best thing to do, but I do know ..

obama is, again, pitting one group against the other.

We, Republicans, will end up fighting each other even more that before and further and further apart, getting weaker as a Party.

That has been my main take-away from the last couple of weeks. They are scared sh**less that this will happen and none (or very little) of the stuff they warned about will actually happen.

Then what? ;-)

Kind of what happens here....I often wonder who hates John Boehner more: Obama or many here on FREE REPUBLIC. We are too quick to label someone a RINO....

But we ARE in a war, and the enemy of my enemy is my friend....most Republicans, for all their faults, are against Obama and the bulk of his policies....we need to side with them and settle our differences later.

The media, eager to press their lips to Obama’s backside, will HYPE and HIGHLIGHT any small problems....we will see hungry children, out of work contractors, and EVEN suffering women and minorities.

Anyone who doesn’t agree with me is a RINO, or so it seems for some on this site. Is it any wonder Obama was re-elected? One thing you can say about the Democrats is they stick together no matter what.

The article raises a good point. If we keep Barry spinning over this for about six months we could run out the clock on some of his more destructive initiatives before Campaign ‘14 begins.

I completely agree.

If only that could get them anywhere in the long run. It can’t. The libs are like one of my chickens right after I shoot them with the pelet gun. They run around and flop around. Lots of action, but they are not really going anywhere and they are harmless if you keep your distance. They are already dead.

Of course, I’m not just talking about liberals. I’m talking about the country. And the blood continues to drain. eventually it will lie motionless. Then it is all about the turkey buzzards and coyotes.

Thanks,
I missed it but an Obama-lover at work claimed that that his interpretation of the same statement was that Boehner was folding in less than a week just like alll the other times (that was prompted by me making fun of the sequester.),

Rather than Boehner paying back Reid for his crap during the tax fight (calling him out) , which is obvious what he is doing now, this lib says its Boehner crying for help.

I predicted that this one will not be like debt extension and tax fight, the Obama-Dem says less thana week.

I think they are more prepared this time, I could be wrong.
