Why Asian-Americans Have Turned Their Backs on the Republican Party
Daily Beast ^ | Feb 26, 2013 | Lloyd Green

Since 2000, Asian-Americans have consistently voted Democratic. In 2008, Asian-Americans gave 62 percent of their vote to Barack Obama. Last November that number jumped to 73 percent even as the president’s margin of victory in the popular vote was cut in half as he garnered a Dukakis-like 41 percent of white voters and slid by more than 13 points among Jewish-Americans.

Asians seem to be low information voters and apt to toe a party line pushed by their bosses.

Ultimately, there is no such thing as an Asian, in terms of policies that can be tailored to win Asian votes. In political terms, the adjective Asian is merely an umbrella term used to cover a heterogeneous bunch of people. From a religious standpoint, for instance, every major religion under the sun is a majority in some country in Asia. Sri Lanka is majority Buddhist, India is majority Hindu, Pakistan is majority Muslim, China is majority pagan, Japan is majority Shinto, the Philippines is majority Christian, and so on.

I visited northern Virginia right after Christmas and visited several malls and public places.

I was surprised at the numbers of young Asian people.

One fact was obvious........ the young women were wearing boots. Young Asians are fad conscious.

Even the Asians benefit from affirmative action and equal opportunity laws, they go the front of the line for jobs, scholarships, and other benefits.

I actually saw a couple of young asian women in SUVs with Romney bumperstickers. NoVa is not getting an influx of Koreans fleeing the Demokratic Republik of Maryland.

I still don't fully understand why Asians vote heavily Democratic.

But they don't. Obama got 61% of the Asian vote. Subtract the 8% that is Muslim and the 14% that is Indian, and Obama ends up with 39% of the remaining Asian vote. Ultimately, Obama is winning the Muslim and the Indian votes, and short of either converting to Islam or Hinduism, there is little it can do to appeal to either community. The historical grudges run deep.

Asians only represented 3% of the electorate in 2012, up from 2% in 1996, so the sample size continues to be small.

Number of factors: Obama is a minority and voting for a minority is like voting for a non-White.

Asian Hindu Indians are hostile to the GOP because they saw Bush being favorable to Pakistan and the rest of the GOP hostile to H1-Visas and increased immigration.

Asian Muslims see the GOP hostile because Bush decided to fight back against Muslim terrorists.

Other factors...anti-American/anti-White and anti-Israel feelings among many segments of Asians.

look at the writer ~ Ketan-Desai ~ no doubt a Congress Party family member ~ from SOUF' ASIA.

The hindus in the USA are pretty good at using propaganda to make the Democrat big dogs think they are far more important than their true numbers would suggest.

They've been pushing the 'asian as Democrat' notion for most of the last two decades, but more recently they've been misrepresenting poorly structured and nearly meaningless polls to try to prove their point.

Does not work. East Asians, other than those clustered in Hawaii ~ where being a Japanese American means you OWN the Democrat party ~ are no longer clustered in communities where they can even be surveyed in a meaningful manner.

Frankly, no one has performed a large enough poll to capture enough east asian origin people to figure out how, as a group, they bother voting, or even if they vote.

That's false. Jobs- and college-admissions-wise, Asians are systematically underrepresented, relative to their test scores and their credentials, although they are overrepresented relative to their proportion of the population. The only protected minorities in the country subject to quota preferences are Hispanics and black. While blacks and Hispanics are underrepresented relative to their numbers in the population, they are overrepresented relative to their test scores and credentials.

Toning down the Christian overtones might help appeal to South Asians, who do tend to be sensitive to that sort of thing.

I suspect this will start to change when their children begin losing out on coveted slots at prestigious universities to Blacks and Hispanics with half their SAT scores.

I have worked with a number of Hindus who have never had a problem with my Christian faith. (granted I do not get in their faces every morning and try to convert them)

It seems to me that at least in NoVa the Koreans tend to be more Christian than the average population.

Virtually 100% of the Korean Americans, Vietnamese Americans and Philippino Americans, ABC (American born Chinese), and katonks (non Buddhist japanese Americans) are CHRISTIAN!

The hindus and moslems are the holdouts ~ they are used to insults anyway ~ you have to be to get along where they come from ~ so screw'em! They'll whine a lot ~ they are all good at that ~ but they'll understand and not take it personally.

Asians are as anti white as blacks and latinos. It’;s all about race. The Democrat Party has dropped all pretense and is now the anti colonial party. Democrat arrogance stems from the belief that they have acheived a permanent racial majority.

America will be South Africa in 10 years.
