In Closed-Door Meeting, Cantor Warned of ‘Civil War’
The Corner ^ | February 27, 2013 | Katrina Trinko

House majority leader Eric Cantor is increasingly frustrated with a group of House Republicans who are working against the leadership, and he’s not afraid of voicing his dismay.

In a closed-door conference meeting on Wednesday, Cantor told one GOP member that if they blocked the Senate-passed Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) from coming to the floor, they’d cause “civil war” in the ranks.

Cantor’s comment irked some Republican aides, who told National Review Online that such strong language is inappropriate. In recent days, some conservatives have been upset about the Senate’s version of VAWA, saying that parts of the bill are unconstitutional.

Nevertheless, Cantor’s warning may have had an effect. When the bill came to the floor on Wednesday, only nine Republicans voted against the rule to take up the bill.

Tensions between backbenchers and the leadership, however, are evident. Behind the scenes, House Republicans raised concerns about VAWA throughout the day. Eventually, though, the rule passed, 414–9.

If the republicans aren’t going to oppose the violence against women act—which leads to injustices against men (to include
false accusations and easy convictions of men falsely-accused)

then what are they going to stand up for?

what parts of the constitution are going to be left?

where do they draw the line—or do they just keep retreating?

Up to us to do the fighting for them. The ballot box is a sham.

They are right to fight Cantor, he is an agent of the democRATs. We want a ‘civil war’ in congress this is why we have sent conservatives to the house and senate. Get with the will of the people or get out Eric the Wimp.

Where in the enumerated powers does congress obtain the power to legislate about violence against women? Cantor should be ashamed of himself.

Eric Cantor is no conservative. He is a member of the Council on Foreign relations, an organization dominated by Progressives bent on One World Government.

This needs to be hollered from the mountaintops!

'If you’re the president, member of congress, govt. agent, etc, the only reason why anyone should listen to what you say, is because you exercise power via the Constitution'.

'If the Constitution doesn’t count, you don’t have any legitimate power, and should be (forcibly) removed for trying to exercise power you don’t possess'.

Isn’t it ALREADY illegal to commit violence against women? Does it somehow need to be made MORE illegal?

Why is it that the congress has lees respect for their constituents than they do other congressmen?

Because the political parties have too much control over the election process. THey decide whether to fund a candidate’s re-election. The parties act in collusion to run strong candidates against trouble makers. Political parties re-district to drive out trouble makers.

When its party before people and principles - it is time to clean house.

Boehner is fabulous. He has a minority of his member vote in coalition with the Democrats. A majority of the GOP in Congress voted against VAWA. Who is Boehner exactly leader of?

Once elected they ignore those who elected them because only 18 (if I remember correctly) states have recall procedures and they are generally cumbersome. This is another argument for: term limits, citizen statesmen (no professional politicians), performance based iniatives for Congressmen, and no special perks for elected officials. I would much prefer to have representatives who have worked in fields other than being professional politicians.

Cantor is doing this to appeal to female voters.

If this is the only issue which determines who women vote for, wont they notice that 138 Republicans voted against it?

That deep down Republicans didnt want this form of VAWA to pass.

They would still vote Democrat if VAWA is a vote changer.
