Newt Gingrich: John McCain Attacks On Rand Paul ‘Sad’
Politico ^ | 3/8/13 6:39 AM EST | By KEVIN CIRILLI

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is slamming Sen. John McCain for criticizing Sens. Ted Cruz and Rand Paul, saying it’s “sad” for someone who was once known as a maverick in Congress.

“What I find sad about Sen. McCain’s recent comments both to Ted Cruz, when Ted Cruz was frankly raising legitimate questions [about Benghazi] and with Rand Paul, is, you know, when I first knew John McCain in the House — he was a maverick. In the Senate, for years, he was a maverick,” Gingrich said Thursday on Fox News.

He continued: “Of everybody I know in the Senate, I didn’t know anybody who had a better record of bucking the leadership, doing what he thought mattered, marching to his own drummer. And I think that it’s unfortunate. But I think frankly it doesn’t hurt Ted Cruz and it doesn’t hurt Rand Paul — it hurts John McCain. The country is moving on, we’re in a new era, people know that these are legitimate questions.”

McCain criticized Paul on Thursday, calling the Kentucky Republican’s’s nearly 13-hour filibuster questioning the White House on its domestic drone policy a “disservice.” McCain has also sparred with Cruz, a freshman tea partier with a reputation in the Senate for being outspoken

...the faery from SC.

You must be mistaken. SC has none. There's one out of Wilmington NC to Fort Fisher, though.

Though I admire the stand Rand took the other day... I don’t really trust either Rand or Ron Paul. I’d rather someone like Cruz or Palin run, someone who GETS conservatives and can rally them effectively, and who doesn’t feel the need to be moderate.

Golden op was wasted when Hayworth was put up against McCain.
Im of the opinion that a no name Tea Partyer would have done better and probably would have won.

Same could have been said of a lot of races.

Do you think voters put that much thought into it? Then you have more faith in democracy than me. I imagine it’s more like that’s the name they’ve heard before. Probably the state is reliably Pub, too. Sometimes name recognition works in reverse, and people vote against the one they heard more about. But McCain, being a lib and virtual Dem, doesn’t get much bad press.

For a while when he ran against Obama, surely. But not so much as Bush the Younger, for instance, because McCain didn’t try very hard. Remember when he called truce to vote for the bailout, or how they nearly posses themselves in fear when the spector of another Katrina loomed over the convention, or when they refused to expose Obama’s radical roots? Plus, they had Palin to kick around.

So what I’m saying is McCain’s got the “R,” he’s got the name recognition, he’s got the absence of bad press, and he’s got the extra incumbency protection he helped reinforce with campaign finance reform. How he represents the electorate in the Senate barely enters into consideration.

Newt has made some horrible mistakes but with his performance in the primaries, and with this sort of commentary, he’s regaining some stature in my eyes.

Waiting for Mrs. Palin. This is big enough that she needs
to say where she stands on this. She tweeted support for
Paul during the filibuster and I hope she will now condemn
McCrap for demeaning him.

If she still has loyalty to that creep, I don’t know if
I’ll be able to stand it.

C’mon Sarah, get all mavericky.

“right after he said there was nothing to fear from an Obama presidency.”

Arizona should realize there is nothing to fear about a “McCain” free Senate.

No more meat on that bone to bring home kids.

I think McCain is jealous of someone who is in the limelight instead of him. He feels entitled to be the “star” just like he was entitled to be the candidate in 2008.

Narcissist.

If he cared about this country instead of just himself, he’d have been helping Sen. Paul instead of dining with Zippy. It’s more important to him to hang with the “cool” kids than to study and work hard. (Maybe that’s why he was at the bottom of his class in school.)

McCain is the stain.

He must retire if our nation is to survive.
