"Wow! That looks like Fairbanks!"

When I used to follow Kathy's weather we shared different jet streams and when we had snow, AK had warm sun; when they had snow our winter was usually mild.

Stay save and grounded, and good luck with the storms.

If you know Bahston then you might know Wista.

Wista is close to what used to be Ft. Devens. I spent some time there, yep.

101+ is starting to sound like western New York, another place I visited temporarily a time or two.

You do a wonderful job.

My Dad (at the age of 17!) did the same kind of thing you are doing. On his ship in the South Pacific, he played Classical records for his shipmates, and told the stories behind the music. The favorite record on shipboard was “Excerpts from Faust” the opera by Charles Gounod. The sailors loved the sexy story and the music was, of course, wonderful. Soon they were whistling the Soldiers’ March while they were swabbing the decks or manning the Anti-Aircraft guns. Instead of ‘Reveille”, the Captain authorized dad to pipe “String of Pearls” through the sound system. So it wasn’t all Classical.

Dad passed away in 2011, and FR was there for me. I loved him so much.

Your Music posts remind me of him.

Wista ALWAYS gets more snow than Bahston!

I am going up to Bahston next week. I have only sandals and sneakers and motorcycle boots to wear.

And just a MC Jacket which will really THRILL the TSA.

Grrrrr

thank you....I’d love to visit your great state more. I’ve just done a couple of drive-throughs at different times. Would love to stay and really see some of the great historical sites there!

Anything under 73 and I freeze. Hubby says I have no blood! LOL!

You should consider Publizing Frank Zappa where all worlds meet, overlap and sometimes colide. He was better schooled in classical music and modern jazz than any rock musician before or since. He sometimes made John Cage look mainstream. Who else could interpret Ravel's Bolero as reggae?

I think the weatherman said 101+ was double Wista’s average.

Gotta tell you we still miss Devens.

It's best to pack clothes that can be worn layered and forget the sandals.

Temps are expected to be high 40s to 50 starting tomorrow and there will be a lot of melting.

Visited a friend in Pensacola one winter and she begged me to bring her a down jacket. Walking on the beach there I wore shorts and a t-shirt while she bundled up in the down jacket.

That's just like my friend in Pensacola. She bundles up when it's the low 70s and I'm in shorts and a tee.

I've been through 26 states on the ground, all but a couple of states visited are east of the Mississippi and I can affirm that this is an awesome country. Still, I love New England. It's weather and fishing that makes it stand apart from others.

The only reason I would ever visit Bahston in the WINTER, is to help my elderly Mom. Which is what this visit as all about.

Well gosh, M-L, you're making me blush!

(MUMLE MUMBLE BLUSH BLUSH)

"Faust" was one of the greatest bel canto operas of its era, and I get a chuckle thinking about swabbies whistling the "Soldier's Chorus" on duty. The "Triumphal March" from "Aida" is another great military vehicle.

Thanks for the praise.

I think he may have played that for his shipmates too.

I saw Faust in the touring company of the Met (in Boston, around 1972). The singing was great, but the sets (being the touring sets, I’m sure) were minimal and boring. I had to practically hold my mouth shut so I would not burst into song with the artists onstage!
