Good post.....the awards and decorations program has been abused and needs to be reigned in . When everyone gets an award is it really an award per se ?

Thanks to your Father and you for your service. Similar experiences during my service career. Papered poodles from the pentagon with polished pendants that have never crossed the pond should be ashamed to wear any battle ribbon.

Again just my opinion .... Stay Safe !

Not a joke, and...

...he’s a FReeper, who justifies (on another thread) it as ‘a routine end of tour’ award (or similar language)for someone of his rank and responsibility.

If I could remember his handle, I’d courtesy ping him to this.

if you have not seen the powerpoint slides, how can you comment on their content?

I know it is bad to make assumptions however I assume that a PowerPoint on how to properly handle the Koran is a PowerPoint on how to properly handle the Koran. To handle it any other way than you would a normal book must imply that there is a reason for doing it. Should it be any different than handling the Koran then it would be in handling the Bible? If so why!

Napoleon is supposed to have said that he could conquer the world if he had enough “bits of material” (ribbons). In the Army, it used to be harder to receive a medal. I was told this changed after a Congressional staffer talked to an Army aide.

“Are the Army people not as brave as the Air Force and Navy?”

“Where in the world did you get that idea?”

“The Navy and Air Force people at the Congressional hearings have more medals.”

Look at the old photos. The Army started handing out more medals. Perception is reality.

While active duty U.S. Navy, I encrypted a message that had NOT been directed to a particular group of our own ships. This was in a time when, had they received the message could prevent devastation of the originally inteded group.
In turn, I decided to address and send that message to the non-addressed group.

The subsequent action taken by the non-directed group’s commmander eventually prevented harm to the originally intended group, therby possibly saving MANY lives......

Am I in the running for a “BS” for doing what I did?
Not in my mind as it was my JOB!

Opinion:

Re your power point presentation... as a Christ-following Christian and a wife of a former 82nd Airborne; I hang my head in shame that you are calling yourself a christian. However, that’s today’s world.

No response necessary as you probably don’t even understand what I am talking about.

It’s not the award that concerns me, but I haven’t seen the PowerPoint that apparently, however indirectly, protects a doctrine responsible for over 270 million murders; a doctrine intended for the persecution of Christians and Jews; a doctrine that I consider to be a war plan.

Islam hates my Christianity — Islam can go pound sand.

Thanks for posting the Chaplain Bronze Star refutation. I am that chaplain. Here is the most thorough refutation of this little piece of journalistic malpractice on the right: http://patriotpost.us/alexander/17211

First, Chaplain, thank you for your service. It seems clear that you've been treated less than fairly by some on the internet.

Second, you've asked a valid question about seeing the slides.

It is possible that you could request permission from your chain of command to post the slides online and link to them here and elsewhere? Since you've been a Freeper for more than a dozen years, I think there's a good likelihood that seeing the slides would make a lot of conservative critics a lot less unhappy with you.

Unless the slides are security-sensitive, I'm guessing that anybody could FOIA those slides and post them online whether you like it or not. However, getting out in front with the truth could be helpful in rebutting rumors.

For anyone in your chain of command who objects, reminding them of the Army Public Affairs catchphrases of “Bad news does not improve with age” and “maximum disclosure, minimum delay” might help.
