If I read between the lines I think that this is not about winning the issue, nor is it about winning elections, its about having a lame comeback line that few will buy after more years of Dems winning and the country sinks further in debt.
I am thinking that Ryan has decided to run too, God help us. Imagine the back-tracking he would do if he won the primary.

You read it correctly. Ryan is just like most so-called conservative pols...lay low, and get elected to something. IMHO, he is useless.

In 2004 he votes to blow up Medicares costs with that Bush freebee expansion. After years of running that new debt up he decides Medicare ‘is going broke’ and to save it: 1) he promises those within 10 years of 65 that they will still get to join the gravy train and stay on till death(you won the lottery Pops) , 2) but sorry, one day younger than that and he has to save it for you by replacing it with a few lines of standard Ryan Rhetoric. (they can hand a Ryan IOU to the doctor in 11 years after they retire.)
Like Gilb, I have no faith that Ryan has any ideas that will work, but when he proposes stuff to take effect in 10 years it tells me that even he doesnt believe his own BS>

And we used to ridicule Clinton for his “need to maintain my political viability”. Now all seem to have are “lifer” Republican politicians who are quite content to be ruled by Democrats . Boehner is the classic example. Ryan’s plan solves nothing, while he plays it safe for a few more years.
