The Washington Times extending reach with cable network

Herring Broadcasting, owner of the Wealth TV network, and The Washington Times announced Thursday that they have joined in a strategic partnership to create a new national cable news network called One America News, set to debut nationwide this summer.

“One America News Network will provide Americans a new, credible source for national and international news and investigative reporting as well as talk shows designed to foster an independent, cutting-edge debate about the policies, issues and solutions facing the country,” said Robert Herring Sr., CEO of Herring Broadcasting, founded in 2004 and based in San Diego.

The intent is to provide credible news and thoughtful analysis for “viewers with self-described independent, conservative and libertarian values,” Mr. Herring said. “Fox News has done a great job serving the center-right and independent audiences. But those who consider themselves liberal have a half dozen or more choices on TV each day from which to get their news,” he said.

It is time for some more options, he added.

We need to get this and Blaze TV on all cable and satellite systems — and Al Jazeera off.

I would make these observations. First, you have to crack into the cable-TV monopoly and get them to allow you their ‘package’. They might find one immediate opening but I doubt that they are seen by more than twenty million Americans. Second, the Washington Times is marginally surviving right now as a newspaper...so it’s hard to see them survive as a TV news outlet unless they’ve got lots of sponsorship lined up for the first year. Third, it’ll almost impossible to take any of Fox News viewership away. Unless they angle off at CNN...it’s hard to say where the viewers come from.

Oh, I don’t know. I’d find Shep Smith, or O’Blowhard pretty easy to tune away from if I had something else to watch.

If they give any credence to “Independents”, they are doomed to failure. Independents are liberals without the courage to publicly admit it.

How this new network can not only survive but thrive is to be unabashedly pro-American Constitutionalist, constantly hammering the liberal/democrat/socialist/communist/environmentalist totalitarians with true investigative reporting. They do this and their ratings will bury all other “news” networks.

Should they try be “fair and balanced” they will fail. Because you cannot apply “fair and balanced” to good and evil.

That’s ridiculous. MANY people on this very website are now conservative Independents, because there’s only an inch-worth of difference between the Democrats and the Republicans.

Yes...there are many Conservatives who are Independents. I find more and more these days that folks who continue to hold on to the myth that the GOP is Conservative are really closet liberals

I would welcome a conservative news network....since we now do not really have one

One of the reasons Rove thought Romney was going win, was independents were trending towards Romney. What Rove did not realize is that lots of those independents used to be republicans until Rove and Bush drove them out of the party with massive spending and hugely growing government. Lots of people like me are now (conservative) independents.

Since November 1st I have chosen to watch nothing on any news channel. If it is not reported here or Drudge or the Blaze, or Rush, Beck Levin then I don't hear any of it.

YouTube is vastly more entertaining.

I think there are a lot of us that turned off the TV in November. I can not stand to hear or look at that illegal alien in the White House...

As to Fox News, I have not tuned in Bill O’Reilly with his New Yorker conversational habits(over-talking and interrupting) in well over two years and Hannity is the same ole, same ole with impossible to understand segments with several people yelling and talking at the same time, another NY’r trait...

I did Turn on the TV during Rand Paul and Ted Cruz’s stand for the Constitution... I had forgotten some of the channel numbers...

Agreed. Shep Smith makes my skin crawl. Blowhard gives me high blood pressure.

Enthusiastic bump.

I have no more favorite cable broadcasting channel. I find myself tending to watch Fox but that has gone way, way down.

I still have cable, but only just. Watch a lot of Survivorman, and such series reruns.

I’ll turn to the new channel the first day. And likely stay there.
