Rob Portman Comes Out
PJ Media ^ | March 15, 2013 | Stephen Green

Ohio Republican Senator Rob Portman, a longtime opponent of same-sex marriage, said on Friday he now believes gays have a right to marry after learning two years ago that his son is gay.

Portman, who was on the short list to be 2012 Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s running mate, made the announcement in an opinion piece in an Ohio newspaper and gave interviews on his change of heart.

“I have come to believe that if two people are prepared to make a lifetime commitment to love and care for each other in good times and in bad, the government shouldn’t deny them the opportunity to get married,” Portman wrote in an op-ed piece in the Columbus Dispatch, titled “The Freedom to Marry.”

Indeed.

The “problem” as I see it — and I put “problem” in quotes because I don’t really see it as one — is how to integrate gays into the broader American experience. They’re out, they’re proud, and they should be. Nobody is forcing anybody back into any closet, or re-criminalizing anyone’s love life, without instituting an authoritarian kind of religious state that is antithetical to American values and liberties.

But legalizing gay marriage isn’t quite the answer. Let me explain.

The vile progs want to institute gay marriage also, but not because of any love or concern for gays. Watch how easily and cruelly they throw around accusations that so-and-so is a [UNPRINTABLE WORD FOR GAY] or a [ANOTHER UNPRINTABLE WORD FOR GAY] and you’ll see what I mean. No, for the progressive left, gay marriage is just another club for beating America’s churches into submission to the State. First Catholic birth control, then Baptist gay marriage, and so on. Progressivism is a truly jealous god and will have no other gods before it — not even yours.

Instead, the proper course is to abolish marriage as a government institution. Civil unions for all who want them, gay or straight, for legal purposes of wills, benefits, hospital visitations, etc. But leave marriage where it originated: With the churches. My church will proudly marry gay couples, maybe yours won’t. But no one will be forced to do or recognize anything they don’t want to. Everyone’s rights are protected; everyone’s liberties are respected.

And, oh yeah, the vile progs lose a big battle in their war against freedom of expression.

How’s that for a win-win-win?

They are out and they are proud: Proud of what?

Fellatio? or sticking their thing in poop?

Is that something to be proud of?

These are sick individuals, and any father would be ashamed for his son. Sure you can still love a person and be ashamed of them at the same time.

It is a time for chosing. Portman chose to forsake his principles. Let’s re-dedicate ourselves to God and pray we don’t forsake His principles.

Okay, so his son is queer. I feel sorry for the both of them. But what does that have to do with whether we should re-define marriage? Somehow the logic escapes me.

We finally see that Portman is on about the same moral level as Kerry’s running mate. (whoever that was)

That’s all well and good.

But please run somebody who at least listens to Rush a couple hours a week and understands what to do when journ-0-lists ambush you.

Six years with a progressive senator is a lot of pain.

(speaking with Hoosier experience)

I believe that you’re from Sidney, Ohio.

We’re transplanted Buckeyes from Troy who still maintain a residence in Ohio.

Excellent point, the term, Republican, becomes more and more disgusting.

I fail to see how this changes anything.
It was an evil sin before his son chose to live that lifestyle so it is still an evil sin.
Its your son and you will not stop loving him but that does not mean you have to turn you back on the word of God...

“I have come to believe that if two people are prepared to make a lifetime commitment to love and care for each other in good times and in bad, the government shouldn’t deny them the opportunity to get married,”

Oh really?
Brother and sister them?
Or Mom and son? Or a 42 year old and a 12 year old?
Why is he limiting it to 2 people? Why not 3 people?

“That said, if civil unions keep gay men out of the bath houses and spreading HIV, then I am for it.”

What if I showed you the numbers in Canada that 9 out of every 10 are performed with non-residents?

Does marriage keep men (and women) out of cheap motels and brothels?

The son of Rob is the male ‘member’ of the proposed household and as such will have a position on top.

I used to rent out rooms in my house in Lynchburg, VA to college guys who were interning at the company I worked for as a way to afford to trek up to Baltimore to watch the O's play (Memorial Stadium).

One night we all had dates (girls) over and were listening to music and making small talk. A knock on the door revealed one of the Jerry Falwell youth fundraisers. He was selling gravesites in Fort Hill Cemetery cheap because he said they could stack the bodies in a single grave up to 6 people deep. I am not making this up.

Scott's girlfriend looks over at Scott and says, "That means, if you go first, I get top position." We all started laughing, and Falwell's disciple left.

Could it be that maybe, just maybe, his kid might need psychological help, instead of condoning deviate behavior?

Saul Alinsky:
RULE 4: “Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.

The press is going to have a field day with this. They know Republicans eat their own if they change positions on key issues. Portman is toast.

Democraps/Liberals/Socialists don’t have this problem. How many times has Obama flipped on an issue and they still love him. Remember, Obama was for traditional marriage during most of his first term.

Beat me to it. Being a sodomite is NOTHING to be proud of. It’s a disease-ridden, repellent lifestyle that logically should have its members hiding away in shame. Like they USED to.

But no one has the guts to say it, not even most conservatives. If you notice, they speak out against gay MARRIAGE, but lose their nerve completely when it comes to homosexuality itself.

Since the election is now behind us, he thought it would be okay to bring up something that he's thought for two years.

They’re out, they’re proud, and they should be. Nobody is forcing anybody back into any closet, or re-criminalizing anyone’s Bible-based life, without instituting an authoritarian kind of immoral state that is antithetical to American values and liberties.

There, I fixed it. If someone who believes in Bible-ordained marriage were to say this about Christianity in the public schools, his/her job would be lost.

I would “respect” his opinion, (but not agree with it), if he also supported Polygamy and Incestuous Marriage.

If he was asked why he agreed with one deviant behavior but not the others, I'm sure he would have a readily available explanation. (sarcasm alert) As of now, he supports Gay Marriage because his Son “loves” another Man.

Taking the position he just announced is based on the notion that such behavior is a Civil Right, which if accepted ingrains the behavior into Society as a norm. Well, people who want to be Polygamists or want to Marry their own Blood Relatives would tell you the same thing. The entire concept of Gay Marriage fails simply because those who accept it must also accept every deviant behavior or deny the same “Civil Rights” of those choosing to be involved in them.
