China Is Engineering Genius Babies (Collecting DNA samples to produce genius race)
Vice ^ | 3/16/2013 | Vice

It’s not exactly news that China is setting itself up as a new global superpower, is it? While Western civilization chokes on its own gluttony like a latter-day Marlon Brando, China continues to buy up American debt and lock away the world’s natural resources. But now, not content to simply laugh and make jerk-off signs as they pass us on the geopolitical highway, they’ve also developed a state-endorsed genetic-engineering project.

At BGI Shenzhen, scientists have collected DNA samples from 2,000 of the world’s smartest people and are sequencing their entire genomes in an attempt to identify the alleles which determine human intelligence. Apparently they’re not far from finding them, and when they do, embryo screening will allow parents to pick their brightest zygote and potentially bump up every generation's intelligence by five to 15 IQ points. Within a couple of generations, competing with the Chinese on an intellectual level will be like challenging Lena Dunham to a getting-naked-on-TV contest.

I usually don’t go in for Godwinning a thread, but this story is uniquely deserving of that disctinction...

So... You know who else was a big believer in breeding a master race?

Ultimately, it probably wouldn’t work. Every society that has tried to engineer a superior human being has failed.

One group, from England, even tried to separate themselves by living on an island. That island became quite inbred over thirty years.

The Finns edged out the Chinese some time ago. Their secret? Really long winters!

Some years ago, the Wall Street Journal had an editorial about fascism. They asked, if Hitler had been able to end WWII with something short of outright defeat, and if the Nazi Party had stayed in power in Germany from 1933 to 2000, what would Germany look like?

WSJ answer: China today.

Of course, I consider America to be absolutely a fascist society -- although not yet a totalitarian society. Clock's ticking tho'.

Heheh.

Have at it China. There are more unemployed geniuses than effective ones.

Much better that you let the free markets work and let those REAL geniuses rise to the top.

Raising geniuses doesn't lend itself to micromanagement...let nature take its course.

But then, you are welcome to our in house genius, Obama.

He is a hothouse orchid...and look at what he has accomplished (nuttin' honey).

Not Pitcairn, although they also suffered from inbreeding.

It was just a group of nobles who thought they could create a superior society by using a stock,of superior people. From what I understand, this society became quite inbred, stupid, and violent.

The genetic differences between one human and another are not great ~ we're much more like those virtually identical lab mice than our wild cousins in the Hominidae family.

On the other hand epigenetics reveals that we are vastly different in ways we never imagined up until barely 5 years ago. (You'll also want to look up DNA methylation and histone modification)

What that means when it comes to genes is that it's very difficult to do other than breed to the average of the species.

Someday we'll gain control of epigenetics and we will be able to tell our genes to DO BETTER, and whatever advantage the Chinese imagine they will get by matching up breeders will evaporate like the morning dew on a dry day.

Within a couple of generations, competing with the Chinese on an intellectual level will be like challenging Lena Dunham to a getting-naked-on-TV contest.

Not going to happen. Any technology the Chinese develop will spread to the rest of the world as well. And parents all over will undoubtedly want smarter kids.

Welcome to the 21st century.

Coincidentally, I happened to watch this just last night:

Gattaca. Ethan Hawke. Uma Thurman. 1997.

Online, free, and pretty darn good movie. Recommended for your Saturday night entertainment.

I read an alleged speech by a Chinese general that would make a Nazi blush. It’s alleged, because there’s no way to confirm it. It was reported by dissidents of the Chinese communist state. The content of the speech argued that the Chinese are the superior race, and that they evolved independently of other humans and created the first civilization. He went on to say that they need “living space,” and also detailed the Chinese strategy of nuclear, biological and chemical genocide in the inevitable happening of WWIII against the United States and its allies. He expected the Russians to help and to handle different fronts.

If that speech was authentic, it’s not surprising to hear about them planning to genetically modify their way to the top. It’ll never happen though. They don’t know that there is a God in heaven, counting the sins of the government, and ours too, who will harvest when the harvest is ready.

Maybe the Church Of The Subgenius will become popular over there.

The global fascist who serves as GE’s CEO, Jeffery Immelt, claimed China has a superior political system to the US.

Most recently Bill Gates said he’d rather have a different kind of government than our constiutional Republic because Obama does not have enough power to get anything done.
