PHILADELPHIA - (AP) -- A lawyer defending a Philadelphia abortion provider on murder charges accused officials of "an elitist, racist prosecution," as the death-penalty trial opened Monday.
Lawyer Jack McMahon also accused city officials of "a prosecutorial lynching" of his client, Dr. Kermit Gosnell, who is black.
Gosnell, 72, is accused of running a rogue clinic that ignored the state ban on third-term abortions and 24-hour waiting periods. Prosecutors say he also maimed desperate, often poor women and teens by letting his untrained staff perform abortions and give anesthesia. And they say he got rich doing it, by performing a high volume of substandard abortions.
Police found $250,000 in cash during a 2010 search of his home, Assistant District Attorney Joanne Pescatore told jurors. Gosnell used outmoded drugs and improper methodology, forcing women to deliver live babies that were then killed by staff with scissors, she said.
"The standard practice here was to slay babies. That's what they did," said Pescatore, who echoed a 2011 grand jury report in calling the clinic "a house of horrors."

The evil ones in our society always use racism as a defense.
Lynching a mass murderer is appropriate punishment where I come from.

That is so awful and it can’t be unseen.

I remember this case...and I have to fight the urge to throw up.
This man was pure evil.
I used to Troll DU; and, it was this story that got me banned (’tomstoned’). I tried to feel them out to see if anybody thought this guy had gone too far.
None did.....in fact, that notion was so out of bounds, it got me banned.

There are procedures that can be gone through to not be in violation of laws.
Wonder if he ever coached a minor to lie to avoid the nosey cops who might want to prosecute a statutory rapist who impregnated her.

If the defense attorney is going to play his ONE race card, maybe the prosecutors ought to bring out the rest of the deck.
And adult dialog is welcome, I presume.
I know. We really want warning, but in a way, too, we’ve had ample warning.
Not to argue personal, just in general, People have allowed this to go on.
We live in a republic, so we will all be held accountable, certainly in the history books.
This will end, one way or the other. there have been 55 million babies killed since 1973, surgically, reliable estimates count that many more through chemicals (birth control pill- abortifacient).
We are a way up there past what Hitler and Stalin were able to do.
It’s like the 101st Airborne, when they came upon the Concentration Camp, it took them a while to figure out what was going on. I’m sure they thought, “geeze a little warning would’ve been nice”, but they were thinking about how to help.
I just think of the baby, ready to start life, getting his brains sucked out.
All the politicians and their voters and most definitely the gung ho media people, should see this in person, but starting with the SCOTUS, and we shouldn’t have to be dragged into it.
But, like the 101st Airborne, and the others, we’ll have to be the ones to bring it out into the open then make them clean it up, fix it.
But this happens every day by the thousands in this country alone (1300)/day I think the estimate is. We taxpayers pay for it and our country exports it to the third world

if the good BLACK doctor were actually lynched, maybe the
media would follow the story. as it is, dead term babies,
a few dead ‘mothers’ no story here, move along, constitutional right to privacy etc..
He is a black affirmative action degreed physician who is not competent to doctor the people needing real medical attention

Personally, years ago, it was the shock of learning what a “partial birth abortion” actually was that pushed me over the cliff, so to speak.
Before that, I didn’t really give much thought to the abortion question, as I had been led to believe that it only happened so early in the pregnancy that there was no pain involved, and no consciousness to be considered.
I found out, to my horror, that I had been lied to, and that monsters like this so-called “doctor” were plying their grisly trade each and every day. I was so shocked that I could no longer stomach ANY abortion, and have been firmly on the pro-life side ever since.
Yes, that picture is shocking. That’s why people have to see it, and others like it.
Sorry your delicate sensibilities were offended. Maybe DU is where you belong, a place where a picture like that would NEVER be tolerated, not even as a link.
