I will admit to watching the show and complaining about every episode. The complete lack of situational awareness alone would have everyone on that show dead in the first few weeks. For example on the morgan episode, Morgan and son go into a house to find food. Morgan goes into the basement and leaves son by the stairs. Zombie eats son. Obviously they did not clear the house before they started searching, or they left the door open and one walked in undetected. Its just too stupid to be believable.

I also complain about every episode, for the same reasons. I am sick and tired of people saying things like "this show is about people, not zombies", or "this show is about the characters, not about how to survive". Making the show realistic in terms of people's behavior would add to the character development, not replace it. Painfully poor decision making is nails on the chalkboard, at least to me. I have a hard time really caring about any of the characters (including Daryl -- sorry ladies), because they are all idiots.

I think that the show's popularity is more a reflection of other shows on tv, than it is a reflection on "The Walking Dead". I watch it, because it is generally well-casted, has a good (in a dark way) atmosphere, and avoids many of the pitfalls of similar shows (no 20 something beach-blonde nuclear physicists, no 110 pound female who can go toe-to-toe with Chuck Liddell, no Jeff Goldblum, and the kids are seen more than heard).

My question: Why did they make such a big deal of the fact that they are all infected? So a new post-death ritual is created. Instead of pennies on the eyes, put an icepick in the brain-pan. Hardly a big deal, given everything else that has gone on.

It wouldn't take much to morph this show into one of the best of all time. And it would make the good aspects of the show even better. But as it stands now, it is merely a parable in which the village idiot inherits the earth.

The complete lack of situational awareness

Glad we have a navy seal on site to offer their analysis......

Its just too stupid to be believable.

One would think that with your superior intellect and insight, the mere title of the series "the Walking Dead" would have kept you from even watching the first episode.

And you've been watching this series for how long?.......LOL!

Maybe. But we've also seen some evidence that the zombies can perform basic functions, like opening doors. In the pilot or maybe second episode--I can't remember which--Morgan's zombie wife tries to open the door to their house, which was locked. In the episode when Andrea was attacked in the RV, the door was shut and the zombie got in.

I do agree, though, that the characters make some fairly inexplicable decisions. For one, I don't understand why Rick keeps refusing to allow other people into the prison when he knows he is going to war with the Governor. I recognize that there are trust issues, but why wouldn't you pick up backpack guy? Wouldn't an able-bodied male be worth his weight in gold, especially since there are only 3 (Rick, Glen, and Daryl) in their group? Why did he kick out Tyrese and his crew? Dumb.
