Vegetarian Bill Gates: 'Livestock produces 51% of world's greenhouse gases'
The Examiner ^ | Mar. 21, 2013 | Samantha Chang

Posted on 03/21/2013 4:03:31 PM PDT by AuntB

Billionaire Bill Gates is a vegetarian who has become a vocal advocate for a plant-based diet. Gates says a vegetarian diet is healthier and more environmentally friendly than a meat-based diet, and notes that the production of meat is responsible for over half the greenhouse gas emissions in the world.

"[Moving toward a vegetarian diet is] important too in light of the environmental impacts of large-scale meat and dairy production, with livestock estimated to produce nearly 51% of the world’s greenhouse gases," Gates blogged on Mashable March 21.

"The global population is on track to reach nine billion by 2050. What are all those people going to eat? With billions of people adding more animal protein to their diets — meat consumption is expected to double by 2050 — it seems clear that arable land for raising livestock won’t be able to keep up."

Gates, the co-founder and chairman of Microsoft and co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, regularly blogs about the future of food on his website, Gates Notes.

Bill says there are great innovations taking place in food production that can create delicious plant-based meat substitutes that mimic the taste and texture of meat.

Gates, 57, says the innovations can also help with hunger-relief efforts in poor countries. In 2012, the Gates Foundation announced plans to invest in genetically-modified agriculture to combat world hunger.

While the move has been criticized by some, Gates insists a plant-based diet is the cornerstone of superior health, hunger relief, and is better for the environment.

If Gates ever attends dental school he’ll understand how silly vegetarianism is.

As bad as VISTA is I’m sticking with it. Might go to System 7 but so far VISTA is okay ‘cept when it implodes when I power up my printer, then it goes all blue screen on me.

I had a vista laptop that literally took 30 minutes to boot. I upgraded with windows 8 from Staples for $69 and now that laptop will boot in a minute flat. I hate Microsoft, but that was truly the most amazing improvement that I have ever witnessed.

Well, it appears Freepers aren’t fans of Bill Gates. He gives much more to democrats, supported Obama, is a fan of amnesty.

TOP ISSUES LOBBIED, 2012

1. Taxes
2. Immigration
3. Telecommunications
4. Computers & Information Tech
5. Copyright, Patent & Trademark

http://www.opensecrets.org/orgs/summary.php?id=d000000115

Most of you likely know all the above. But do you know who some of his biggest lobbyists are? That might surprise you.

[SNIP]”Yesterday, Grover Norquist’s weekly Americans for Tax Reform conclave was the venue for an announcement by Suhail Khan that he was becoming director for external affairs for Microsoft. Khan’s transformation into a corporate lobbyist comes amidst rising concerns in conservative circles about his longstanding family and personal ties to the Muslim Brotherhood (MB or Ikhwan) in America and his positions in favor of such MB priorities as building the Ground Zero mosque, closing Guantanamo Bay.... dissembling about shariah, etc. “

THAT would be the same Muslim Brotherhood appologist Suhail Khan, CPAC organizer & board member

AND Grover Norquist, CPAC organizer , founder of the Islamic Institute & Microsoft lobbyist.

Fish farting may not just be hot air

Biologists have linked a mysterious, underwater farting sound to bubbles coming out of a herring’s anus. No fish had been known to emit sound from its anus nor to be capable of producing such a high-pitched noise.

“It sounds just like a high-pitched raspberry,” says Ben Wilson of the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. Wilson and his colleagues cannot be sure why herring make this sound, but initial research suggests that it might explain the puzzle of how shoals keep together after dark.

“Surprising and interesting” is how aquatic acoustic specialist Dennis Higgs, of the University of Windsor in Ontario, describes the discovery. It is the first case of a fish potentially using high frequency for communication, he believes.

Arthur Popper, an aquatic bio-acoustic specialist at the University of Maryland, US, is also intrigued. “I’d not have thought of it, but fish do very strange and diverse things,” he says

I’m not a fan of MS, but didn’t Clinton’s DOJ go after MS for not using lobbyists, AKA, donating to dems, one way or the other? (wink wink, nudge nudge).

Decaying plant material creates methane. Plant eaters give it to us sooner, but it all goes into the air one way of the other.
