Gay Marriage’ and Religious Freedom Are Not Compatible
Red State ^ | 3/25/2013 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 03/26/2013 5:36:49 AM PDT by IbJensen

The kids these days on the right are full of a great libertarian notion that “hey, let’s just get the government out of marriage.”

“Rock on,” say other libertarians.

They then all smugly self-congratulate themselves, pat themselves on the back, and move on to other issues.

What they ignore is that the left will never take marriage out of the hands of the government. The left cannot. But it goes beyond that. The left cannot take marriage out of government because for so long it has been government through which marriages were legitimized to the public and the left must also use government to silence those, particularly the religious, who refuse to play along.

Let’s ignore, for the sake of this post, that the Democracy of the Dead has settled for us that in society marriage should be between a man and woman as the best way to propagate the species.

The left has done an admirable job in secular society making the case that gay marriage merely allows a class of people to be happy and have what everyone else has.

The front on which the gay rights movement has failed is the religious and, in particular in the United States, the Christian front.

From Matthew 19:4-6:

“Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”

The Christian Left would prefer to view Matthew 19 as a passage on divorce, which is discussed. But they willfully ignore Christ’s definition of what a marriage is — one man and one woman united to become one.

As much as many would ignore, obfuscate, or try to confuse the beginning of Matthew 19, Christ makes it very clear. The Creator made a male and a female and the two become one. That is marriage in Christianity, despite what a bunch of progressive Christians who have no use for the Bible would have the world believe.

Therein lies the problem for the gay rights movement.

As long as there are still Christians who actually follow Christ and uphold his word, a vast amount of people around the world — never mind Islam — will never ever see gay marriage as anything other than a legal encroachment of God’s intent.

So those Christians must be silenced. The left exerted a great deal of energy to convince everyone that the gay lifestyle is an alternative form of normal. It then has exerted a great deal of energy convincing people that because the gay lifestyle is just another variation of normal, gay marriage must be normalized.

Meanwhile, those Christians are out there saying it is not normal and are refusing to accept it as normal because of silly God dared to say marriage is a union between a man and woman.

Any Christian who refuses to recognize that man wants to upend God’s order will have to be driven from the national conversation. They will be labeled bigots and ultimately criminals.

Already we have seen florists, bakers, and photographers suffer because they have refused to go along with the cultural shift toward gay marriage. There will be more.

Once the world decides that real marriage is something other than natural or Godly, those who would point it out must be silenced and, if not, punished. The state must be used to do this. Consequently, the libertarian pipe dream of getting government out of marriage can never ever be possible.

Within a year or two we will see Christian schools attacked for refusing to admit students whose parents are gay. We will see churches suffer the loss of their tax exempt status for refusing to hold gay weddings. We will see private businesses shut down because they refuse to treat as legitimate that which perverts God’s own established plan. In some places this is already happening.

Christians should, starting yesterday, work on a new front. While we should not stop the fight to preserve marriage, and we may be willing to compromise on civil unions, we must start fighting now for protections for religious objectors to gay marriage.

Churches, businesses, and individuals who refuse to accept gay marriage as a legitimate institution must be protected as best we can. Those protections will eventually crumble as the secular world increasingly fights the world of God, but we should institute those protections now and pray they last as long as possible.

The left cannot allow Christians to continue to preach the full gospel. We already see this in, of all places, Canada. Gay marriage is incompatible with a religion that preaches that the unrepentant are condemned, even of a sin the world has decided is not one. The religious freedom will eventually be ended through the judiciary. We should work to extend that freedom as long as we can.

Now many of you have read through this and you are shaking your head in denial. “No way this is possible,” you say. But then just a decade ago no one seriously considered gay marriage as possible. And we are already seeing signs we’re headed in this direction. It’s coming. Get ready.

Libertarians will have to decide which they value more — the ability of a single digit percentage of Americans to get married or the first amendment. The two are not compatible.

Hopefully, this will lead to a ‘separatist’ movement in the US that is endorsed by the churches. It doesn’t have to be political (at first), but churches are going to have to get behind a movement that encourages separate education, commerce, etc. We need our own distinct culture.

Huckabee:Evangelicals Will Walk if GOP Backs Gay Marriage
Wednesday, March 20, 2013 05:49 PM

By: Jim Meyers and Kathleen Walter

Mike Huckabee warns that Republicans risk losing the vote from evangelical Christians if they back away from their opposition to gay marriage.

Last week, Ohio Sen. Bob Portman announced he has reversed his position and now supports gay marriage.

In an exclusive interview with Newsmax TV, former Arkansas Gov. Huckabee — and ordained Southern Baptist minister — was asked if he sees the GOP ever pivoting and backing gay marriage.

Urgent: Should Pope Francis Allow Women Priests, Contraception? Vote Here Now.

“They might. And if they do, they’re going to lose a large part of their base because evangelicals will take a walk,” he responds.

I think one homofem was actually honest on this fact, she said

“Gays win, Christians lose. That’s how it is.”

Tools. Satan loves to use them. The agenda behind “gay rights” is not giving more freedom to the mentally ill, it is criminalizing Christianity.

"Heather Has Two Mommies" will be in every first grade reading class in the country, beginning this September, when the Supreme Idiots (OK, five idiots) cave.

And Christians will do nothing.

This is exactly why I am opposed to gay marriage. I am libertarian on many issues and I recognize there is a political agenda here that is really bigger than so called “gay rights.” In most caese, I couldn’t care less about gay, straight, black, white, man, woman, etc. We all have the same set of rights that merit protection. But I cannot see how gay marriage can exist along side First Amendment religious rights. Something has to give as the left will never be satisfied with gay marriage recognized by the state only. It won’t stop at bakeries being sued for refusing to make cakes for these weddings. The church is a direct target here.

This First Admendment rights of Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press will be the first to go. It will become illegal to express opinions otherwise.

It happened in Canada, and pastors were thrown into jail for reading the relevant Scriptures. It was described as 'Hate Speech'.

You are exactly right, when we suppress the Freedom of Religion, Freedom of Speech and the Freedom of the Press are shortly to go.

We had a so called conservative Republican named Teddy Roosevelt. He was a damn Progressive and after oil was found, and; he damn sure gave the Fed Gov powers it never had. It was all over oil wealth and then the control of the railroads. He ran on the “Square Deal” BS motto. Next we had a “New Deal”, then the “Great Society”, and; now “CHANGE.” I do not buy things from carnival barkers.

Every single one of these slogan monsters have given the Fed Gov more and more power and control.

This nation had best accept the Lord or it will be destroyed. Make no mistake what the bible says about man sleeping with man.

When push comes to shove, the progressive left will claim “seperation of Church and state” defends same sex marriage from religious arguments.

The left will continue to do this until “separation of church and state” is proven to be a lie produced to hinder Christian influence in America.

The homosexuals are slogging through scheiss in order that we get our priorities straight. Sticking one’s pee-pee in another’s poo-poo will become the new norm. An added feature is what is done with the dip stick when the procedure has ended.

Take a homosexual home to lunch week.

Eventually Harvey Milk Day will be right up there with MLK Day.

Teddy, Woodrow, Franklin.

These are the keys to the mess in which we a currently mired and it appears as though we’re losing ground too fast.

Notice that I didn’t mention Warren and Calvin. They were the ones who was doing everything right!

Honestly, I don’t care or want to contemplate what they do with their free time, especially when some Heteros do the same. I want them to be happy that they have the same protections as everyone else in this country and then get help for their obvious narcissistic personality disorder.

Good points in the writing

I think libertarians just approve of same sex marriage, but they know they wont get far in the GOP if they admit it. So like Democrats they just wait and assume that time is on their side.

They're happy and satan's happy when the rest of decent society is unhappy. This has developed into a war between what's right and what's wrong.

A homosexual's narcissistic personality is just a small part of the problem with sodomists. They have delved into the nasty so long that they have become insane. They're a definite danger to society. Statistics show that homosexuals commit the majority of the serial killings and they're up there in the one on one murders.

Pedophiles are by and large practicing homosexuals; usually old queens that need to ply their evil with young unspoiled flesh. An ordered society and homosexuality go together like horsemeat and eggs.

Yes, the goal is the demonization of Christianity. That is always the end game. When we talk about Satan and the supernatural lets not forget that his game is a battle for souls. He uses the temptations of sin to turn people from God. Every person that stays focused on God and not perversion is his defeat.

Satan also loves to use feelings of despair and hopelessness and helplessness to silence the righteous. There are always souls to save and people who repent. When God is for us who can be against us? Do not give up.

This person you quote doesn’t understand that Christ ( and his people) have already won. It is her soul she will lose.

This makes the case for open marriage better than any other position. If government is the arbiter of marriage it must allow any and all comers. Get government out of the business of certifying marriage and it will be up to the religioous community to monitor itself. Those who choose to call their perversion a marriage are free to do so just not with the blessing of the church.
Christian ministers are free to marry anyone without a license. State certification of marriage is a contractual obligation insuring support for children and dependent spouses. It is in every sense a legal contract creating a merger between 2 persons. The state may generate such partnerships in any context. The church need not be partry to it.

God defines marriage as being between men and women. While many men whom God called righteous in the Bible practiced polygamy, Jesus is quoted in Matthew chapter 19 that from the beginning of humanity, it was God’s intent that marriage would only be one man and one woman.

God defines sexual relations between people of the same sex as sin, that is immoral. In Revelation 22:15, a book dictated to John by Jesus, God tells us that anyone who practices sexual immorality will not be granted eternal life.

But these are ecclesiastical considerations that are outside of secular government, that is unless we want government to police sexual behavior between consenting adults based on the standards of the Bible, that is if we can agree what those are. Do we want Congress to have that debate?

Maybe it is time to get government out of the marriage business and to return it to the private sphere. The problem for me today is that people who want to call themselves “married” against God’s law (as I read it) are willing to use the State to force me to recognize that marriage, which I cannot do. The want to have the State’s public education system indoctrinate my children that homosexual marriage is “normal”. They want to force me to subsidize the homosexual marriage in the tax code just like the godly marriage is subsidized.

If the State must force me to acknowledge its power to declare two men to be “married”, then I must support efforts to remove that power from the State. If people who don’t want God defining their personal morality demand a separation of church and State then let us also have separation of marriage and State as well. If those people don’t want any displays of the Ten Commandments in government buildings, they cannot hide behind the Commandments that protect marriage when it comes to homosexual “marriage”.

You forget that Unitarians call themselves a "church" and pretend to follow the Bible, even though their beliefs only vaguely resemble Christian beliefs in some ways. And there are some otherwise Christian denominations that have authorized gay marriage.
